Aston Martin and Zagato – reunite the partnership

There are Aston Martins and there are Aston Martin Zagatos, but don’t expect to see many on the road.

The last time that this renowned Italian design house penned one of these ultra rare Aston beauties, was back in 2002 when the DB7 Zagato was launched at the Paris Motor Show.

Prior to that, you need to go back fifty-years to when the DB4GT was previewed at the London Motor Show. The car was received with great acclaim and Aston Martin began taking customer orders, while at the same time production of the vehicle commenced in 1961.

I say rare, as only twenty DB4GT Zagotos were ever built, and Aston Martin kept the final car. Of the remaining nineteen examples, all are accounted for and in the hands (or should I say personalised showrooms) of well-known car collectors from all corners of the globe.

It’s not that the Zagato design was any more beautiful than what was designed by Aston’s in-house design team, in fact the home team’s efforts have always bordered on perfection, it’s the fact that they are so outstandingly unique and in such limited numbers that make these cars such a ‘must have’ item.

It seems that we won’t have to wait long for this Italian designed hand built English supercar either. The first product of this historic collaboration will be revealed for the first time on the 21st of May 11, 2011 at the luxurious Villa D’Este Concours on Lake Como, Italy.

Even better will be its debut in endurance racing at the Nurburgring on the 28th May this year.
