Toyota Camry Hybrid Luxury
Toyota's petrol-electric hybrid Camry is set to take on the mainstream mid-size car market.
The Toyota Camry has never been a car to set pulses racing. Conservatively styled and modestly powered, the four-cylinder Camry has built its reputation on reliability rather than sex appeal.
But the popular mid-sizer is now packing some sexy technology under the bonnet in the form of a petrol-electric hybrid motor.
It's the same hybrid system that sent Hollywood into a lather over the Prius and it's in Australia courtesy of a $35 million subsidy from the federal government's Green Car Innovation Fund.
But while the Prius has always been a niche car, Toyota hopes to sell about 10,000 hybrid Camrys a year, which makes it more mainstream.
