New Plug-In Hybrid Range Rover Sport On Its Way To Australia
The British carmaker is set to offer its new plug-in hybrid in Australia in the form of the Range Rover Sport PHEV.
Priced from $95,100 before on-road costs in base SD4 S trim, the Range Rover Sport PHEV is due to hit local showroom from April, 2018.
The sub-$100,000 pricetag puts it well beneath any potential rivals in the premium SUV hybrid market like the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid or Mercedes GLE 500e.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder engine that is coupled with an 85kW electric with combined outputs of 297kW and 640Nm.
The PHEV is capable of driving on pure electric power for up to 51km, while charging can be as quick as two hours and 45 minutes with the right power outlet. Claimed fuel use has been rated at 2.8-litres per 100km.
Jaguar Land Rover's chief executive officer, Dr Ralf Speth, recently committed to offering some form of electrification in all new vehicles from 2020.
“Every new Jaguar Land Rover model line will be electrified from 2020, giving our customers even more choice,” Speth said in September.
“We will introduce a portfolio of electrified products across our model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid vehicles. Our first fully electric performance SUV, the Jaguar I-PACE, goes on sale next year.”
