2006 Toyota Corolla Ascent: owner review
"Can I see over the dashboard?"....This was one of the key selection criteria when my wife went looking for a used car eight years ago.
- Vision, Economy, Reliable, Boot Space
- Stereo speakers could be better
While the little Mazdas turned her head and other cars were worth consideration, it was the 2006 Corolla Ascent that won out....especially on the key criterion.
Good vision front and side for either a vertically challenged driver or a fairly tall driver. None of the odd quarter panel windows to obscure driver vision, as in more recent models, the dials are where they should be, directly behind the steering wheel with clear simple white backgrounds and not stuck somewhere in the middle of the dash.
Very reliable, never let us down, great on fuel, tyres and servicing costs and still going strong. We now understand why Corollas hold a good name over decades of production. Easy to park, great boot space for a small car and sound simple fit out that still looks neat.
We both find the little Ascent pleasant to drive and think it is an ideal city small car.
Soon it will be time to apply the selection criteria again and Corollas would have to be looked at again as the 2006 Ascent tended to tick most boxes and have proven reliability and economy.
