Renault teases Ez-Go urban mobility concept

Driverless ride sharing pod set for Geneva debut

Renault has teased its upcoming Ez-Go shared mobility concept ahead of its official debut at the Geneva motor show next week.

The short video shown on the French maker’s Youtube channel comes after images of the car were posted to Spanish chat forum cochespias.net last week.

In the short teaser clip (watch below), three occupants are seated in an airy cabin that has bench seating for up to five and the car is fully autonomous, without the separated cabin layout and driver’s cockpit of a traditional vehicle. The driverless format and electric motors allow for increased cabin space front and back.

Renault is not providing any details yet, except to say, “Meet Renault Ez-Go, our vision of shared urban mobility: driverless, electric and connected.”

Images of the exterior first leaked last week depict a futuristic looking pod-style autonomous vehicle with large glasshouse and wide doors. The concept appears similar to the uber-luxe self-driving Mercedes-Benz F015 revealed three years ago.

The Ez-Go will be primarily aimed as a ride sharing solution for businesses such as Uber and Lyft, though Renault may introduce its own in-house shared mobility service in the future, following the path taken by some manufactures such as Ford, GM and Nissan.

The flexibility of the capacious interior may also allow for different seating configurations and solutions to a variety of services.

As with all future ride-sharing concepts, the Ez-Go will likely rely on mobile app technology to hail a lift and riders may share routes with other passengers.

Renault is scheduled to reveal its Ez-Go next week at the Geneva motor show. Tune in to Drive as we report all of the details from the event.
