Queensland woman fined for driving an unregistered vehicle with stolen licence plates

The guilty offender said she bought the vehicle from Facebook Marketplace and was unaware the vehicle did not meet legal requirements.

A Queensland woman has been caught by police driving an unregistered vehicle with stolen licence plates.

According to a Courier Mail report, Lesa Ruth Paul reportedly purchased the $3500 car on Facebook Marketplace and was unaware the Holden Commodore did not meet legal requirements.

Ms Paul was stopped by police in Maryborough – a town approximately 255km north of Brisbane – on 25 March 2024.

According to the newspaper, officers noticed the vehicle had an ACT licence plate attached to the bumpers and, after checking the details, discovered the number plate was registered to a black Kia van.

Police spoke to Ms Paul at a service station, and upon inspecting the vehicle’s identification number, officers found the Commodore was uninsured, with its registration cancelled as of 11 March 2024.

Ms Paul’s lawyer, Warren Hunter said she “hadn’t gotten around” to re-registering or insuring the vehicle before she was caught by police.

Ms Paul pled guilty to three offences and was fined $1000.
