Porsche will be eyeing off the Tesla Model S with an electrified new midsized sedan, according to reports out of Europe.
The UK’s Autocar reports that the new and long-rumoured lift-back model - dubbed in the press as Pajun for 'Panamera Junior' - will offer an all-electric variant, citing comments from Porsche chairman Matthias Müller in the German media.
The new model could be based on the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo concept from the 2012 Paris Motor Show, and would also likely feature ‘conventional’ petrol and/or diesel engines.
Whether these internal combustion engines will be matched with a hybrid-electric drive-train in any way is unclear, but it’s the reported all-electric version that is raising eyebrows.
The Pajun EV would reportedly aim to challenge the Model S on both range and performance, with the Tesla offering around 390km of range and a 0-100km/h time of 6.2 seconds in its entry-level model for Australia.
