Old Porsches can now get the latest infotainment technology

Australian owners of classic Porsches can replace AM radio, cassette- and CD-players with streaming services, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Every Porsche 911 in the company's back catalogue – and almost every modern model from the Boxster to Cayenne – can now have a factory-backed infotainment upgrade, for a price.

A complete price list is not publicly available but research by Drive has found the typically upgrade costs between $2500 and $3000.

The only models missing the chance for a 2023 update are the original 356 from the 1950s and the limited-edition Carrera GT supercar.

Porsche provides the chance to replace cassette and CD players – as well as old AM-FM radio receivers – through the Porsche Classic Communications Management System that also brings a modern visual update.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, with Bluetooth telephone connection and hands-free control, are also part of the package.

The PCCM system also brings digital radio and and satellite navigation, which can be operated by a touchscreen within a frame that provides a period-correct appearance.

Since their launch three years ago, the PCCM and PCCM Plus update kits have been available for almost every Porsche built from the 1960s until the early 2000s – but the car-maker has now launched infotainment systems for all models (excluding two rare examples).

In a media statement, Porsche announced its PCCM Plus infotainment system is now available for the 997-generation 911 and the 987-generation Boxster/Cayman (built between 2005 and 2008), as well as the first-generation Cayenne SUV (built from 2003 until 2008).

The expanded availability of PCCM and PCCM Plus means all Porsche models – except the 356 from the 1950s and the mid-2000s Carrera GT supercar – are now compatible with the modern infotainment systems.

While Porsche’s press release didn’t include Australian pricing for the new systems, the car-maker’s Doncaster dealership in Melbourne has made the infotainment kits available to order – and uploaded prices for the range.

For owners of Porsche 911s built between 1964 and 1998, the PCCM system is priced from $2583 including GST. This infotainment system can also be fitted to the 924, 928 and 944 coupes.

The PCCM Plus system is available for the 1999-2008 Porsche 911, 1996-2008 Boxster and 2003-2008 Cayenne, starting from $2901.

According to Porsche Centre Doncaster’s website, the infotainment systems are expected to arrive in Australia this month.
