Nissan Qashqai potential brake hazard recall
Faulty wheel arch may sever brake hose
Nissan Australia has issued a recall notice to owners of its Qashqai SUV model which affects the rear right-hand wheel arch. Although the defect only directly concerns potential deformity of the inner-guard part, its proximity to a brake hose could result in decreased braking performance.
Specifically, the lower edge of the wheel arch could deform and, during high-speed situations such as freeway cruising, may contact the brake hose. Over time, the wear could cause damage, even severing it, resulting in brake fluid loss and increased brake pedal travel which will trigger the brake malfunction lamp to illuminate on the dash.
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Nissan Australia via mail and urged to have the issue fixed, free of charge, at their closest Nissan dealership.
The Nissan Qashqai has been sold in Australia since it was first introduced as a replacement for the small-mid size SUV Dualis in 2014. The Japanese manufacturer revealed a facelifted Qashqai at this year’s Geneva motor show which is due to go on sale locally next month.
Concerned owners can also find a list of affected vehicles at the ACCC’s online recall notice website.
