Nissan North America has reportedly axed the Pathfinder Hybrid from its line-up, with no return planned for the forseeable future.
It's an unusual state of play for the normally hybrid-friendly US market, but according to Car & Driver the petrol-electric Pathfinder's poor fuel economy neutered its appeal as an eco car and thus its fortunes with new-car buyers.
According to Nissan's own figures, the Pathfinder Hybrid consumes 8.4 l/100km on the combined cycle - just 1.5 l/100km less than the regular 3.5 litre V6-engined model and substantially more than diesel powered rivals like the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe.
