New Mazda3 teased

Mazda has teased a glimpse of its next-generation Mazda3 that is due to be fully unveiled next month.

The video released by the Japanese manufacturer doesn’t give much away except for showing the rear-end of a red hatch that will likely take styling inspiration from the Kai Concept car unveiled at the 2017 Tokyo motor show.

Following a shot over the hatchback's new muscular-looking rump is another quick shot of what will be the Mazda3 sedan. Inside will be an updated interior with a new infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and the latest driving assistance aids.

It is anticipated that, along with a potentially dramatic change in styling, the new compact car will showcase the brand’s SkyActiv-X engine technology and be the first production car to use a high compression ignition engine – inspiring the tagline that the car will be the ‘beginning of a new era’.

HCI petrol engines promise to deliver power and torque of a larger engine with the efficiency of a smaller diesel but without an oiler's CO2 emissions. Other manufacturers are yet to crack the code and it seems Mazda will lead the way.

The current-gen Mazda3 has been on sale since 2013 and is due for renewal soon. The end of the video suggests we will see the new model in full during a global debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November.
