Mitsubishi to revive dormant Ralliart nameplate, performance-focused Triton likely as first model
The Ralliart sub-brand – known for its motorsport heritage and road-going homologation-specials – is set to return, after six long years in the wilderness.
Mitsubishi has confirmed plans to relaunch its Ralliart performance-focused sub-brand, and the Triton dual-cab ute looks likely to be its first model.
The Japanese manufacturer announced the move as part of its 2020 end of Japanese financial year results presentation. This was accompanied by a render of a Triton wearing red mudflaps, grille highlights, and decals (shown above).
Further details are thin on the ground for now, and it’s unclear if the new Ralliart vehicles will boast increased power output, or simply feature racing-themed body kits and styling upgrades.
However – according to the presentation – the cars will have "an adventurous spirit … overwhelming driving durability … and increased Mitsubishi Motor-ness.”
A spokesperson for the brand in Australia told CarAdvice the nameplate was being revived internationally, however was unable to confirm the Triton would in fact be the first model to get the Ralliart treatment. This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
The nameplate has previously been used on a range of rally- and motorsport-inspired Mitsubishi models throughout the 1990s and 2000s, including special versions of the Lancer sedan and Colt city car. However, Ralliart has been dormant since 2015 in both its competition and road-going capacity.
