Mercedes-Benz to offer cheaper AMG cars
German car maker to create new point of entry into its performance car range.
Mercedes-Benz is set to expand its AMG range for its littlest performance cars.
The German car maker's performance arm will ply its trade to a second model in the A-Class and CLA-Class ranges that will sit below the existing AMG 45 models.
This follows a similar route taken by Mercedes-AMG with the current AMG 43 models found in the larger vehicles and creates a cheaper point of entry into the brand's performance ranges.
Mercedes-AMG chairman Tobias Moers told British publication, Autocar, "We will complement our successful 45 models with two versions like we do with our larger cars."
While no details have yet been made public, it would be expected that Mercedes-AMG would follow the same path as they did with C43 and E43 when re-naming the C450 and E450 Sport models with extra AMG bits and power to create a theoretical Mercedes-AMG A25 and CLA25.
The current Mercedes-Benz A250 already sports a spritely 160kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot, while also scoring Benz' 4Matic all-wheel drive system. The A25 should sit above this with reports indicating it will produce 180kW but below the next-generation A45 which is tipped to get more than 300kW.

Moers also confirmed that the production version of the Concept A Sedan, shown at the Shanghai motor show in April, was also in line to get two AMG models.
