Mercedes-Benz: autonomous driving to revolutionise interior design
Rotating lounge style seats and gesture controlled displays envisaged on future Mercedes-Benz models.
Mercedes-Benz has revealed a contemporary new interior concept that will grace an upcoming autonomous mobility concept car developed at its research and development centre in California and to be unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.
Conceived to showcase the design and engineering freedoms made possible by on-going advances in the field of autonomous driving technology and the latest developments in gesture, touch and eye detection control, the multi-faceted interior provides seating for four on a quartet of high backed lounge-style seats that rotate to allow a face-to-face configuration in what Mercedes-Benz design boss, Gorden Wagener, describes as a "digital living space".
This enables the front passengers to individually turn around and converse directly with the rear seat passengers while the car is in autonomous mode on the movem or alternatively focus their attention towards the front during manual driving.
Mercedes-Benz has designed its new interior to allow occupants to interact with the vehicle by means of hand gestures, touch displays and eye sensor detection. The surroundings are portrayed on a series of monitors placed throughout the roomy cabin.
