More than 3500 Mercedes-Benz cars and SUVs recalled in Australia due to fuel pump failure

A fuel pump fault has resulted in the recall of almost 3600 Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold in Australia, with the manufacturing defect affecting 10 model lines.

Mercedes-Benz Cars Australia has recalled 3597 examples of its AMG GT 4-Door, C-Class, CLS, E-Class, G-Class, GLC, GLE, GLS, S-Class and SL, following the discovery of a fuel pump defect which could lead to a failure.

The affected vehicles were built by Mercedes-Benz and sold in Australia between 2021 and 2022.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a manufacturing defect, the fuel delivery unit may fail causing the fuel pump to switch off. If this occurs, it could impair the fuel supply to the engine resulting in a loss of power whilst driving.

"A loss of power whilst driving could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users."
