McLaren P13 confirmed

British brand to add entry-level supercar.

Seems like even supercar manufacturer McLaren eventually runs out of billionaires as the company has confirmed this week it will build an entry-level car.

Code-named P13, the new car will be the most affordable, targeting the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo and Aston Martin Vantage.

As McLaren has maintained since it released the MP4-12C, the new model will use the company's carbon fibre MonoCell tub as its basic structure and a unique version of the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 that powers the latest 650S and P1.

McLaren confirmed it will have the same footprint as the new 650S with similar overall proportions and that it would be available in more than one body style, hinting at a coupe and convertible option.

Production won’t start this year, fuelling speculation that it will hit showrooms sometime next year.

And the cost? Well, it’s a less expensive alternative to a $441,500 650S or the million-Euro P1 hypercar, but even at the hinted-at two-thirds-of-a-650S figure, that still adds up to about $300,000 by the time it gets to Australia.

Start saving.
