Maserati Grecale wait time stretches to three months in Australia

The 2023 Maserati Grecale already has more than 100 orders in Australia even though price is yet to be confirmed or any local customers have taken a test drive.

Representatives for Maserati in Australia say they are already holding 120 orders for the company's new medium SUV. 

Price is yet to be confirmed, however early indications are that the RRP won't dip below $100,000 even though it will likely become the Italian brand's most affordable model in five years.

The Maserati Grecale will be sold with a “premium price” compared to other brands, said Grant Barling, General Manager of Maserati in Australia.

Despite the expected high price, Maserati believes the Grecale can double the brand's sales in Australia within the first couple of years on sale.

“We believe ... we can as a brand potentially double our volume,” said Mr Barling.

Maserati says the Grecale is expected to account for 60 to 70 per cent of its sales in Australia. 

Maserati also revealed wait times of up to three months for its first new model since the Levante arrived in 2017, as it relaunched its personalisation program that was introduced locally two years ago.

Given the slow take-up of the long list of options – some of which cost up to $46,000, including customised paint colours and finishes, multi-coloured window finishes, wheels with coloured accents, a range of leathers and liveries – Maserati is trying to spark renewed interest in the personalisation program.

Customers opting for Fuoriserie (Italian for "custom-built") will need to wait six months for delivery of their custom vehicle, the company says. 

The Maserati Grecale will be backed by a three year/unlimited-kilometre warranty.

Even though many luxury rivals have moved to five-year coverage, Maserati Australia says it has no plans to move from a three- to five-year warranty.

Meanwhile, Maserati Australia says all future orders will be based on customer orders – rather than having showroom stock on standby – which will likely lengthen waiting times.

The Maserati Grecale SUV is due to arrive in Australia in early 2023, with the electric version due some time in 2024.
