2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E electric SUV adds Rally edition, coming to showrooms

The Ford Mustang Mach-E electric family SUV has been given an off-road makeover – and it's not just a one-off show car.

An off-road-ready version of the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E electric SUV has been unveiled – known as the 'Rally' – ahead of overseas showroom arrivals due as soon as later this year.

Unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, Ford says the Mustang Mach-E Rally is the first Mustang – a name affixed exclusively to a low-slung, two-door sports car for 56 years of its 59-year history – to "[go past] where the tarmac ends and the dirt road begins".

It is due to go on sale first in the US and Europe, with orders to open in the US in the northern autumn of this year (September to November).

Australian launch plans are yet to be announced; regular Select, Premium and GT versions of the Mustang Mach-E is due in local showrooms between October and December 2023.

Ford has not outlined the changes planned for the Mach-E Rally edition, however the photos show it will gain taller suspension, unique white off-road wheels, BFGoodrich tyres, and a series of body enhancements.

The wheel arches and side skirts are finished in matte black (instead of gloss black or body colour), a tweaked rear bumper, new lower front splitter, spotlights in the front 'grille' panel, mudflaps, and a tall rally-style rear spoiler.

The new wheels use BFGoodrich 'Trail-Terrain' rubber, which are positioned between a traditional on-road highway-terrain tyre, and an off-road-oriented all-terrain tyre.

It's unclear if the Mach-E Rally-branded livery will make it to showrooms.

Inside, visible highlights include ivory-coloured highlights on the steering wheel, front sport seatbacks and contrast stitching, plus leather-look and suede seat upholstery, and suede door inserts.

The Rally wears the front bumper from the Mustang Mach-E GT, suggesting it could use this model's 91kWh battery and dual electric motors developing 358kW and 860Nm.

The GT is capable of a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of 3.7 seconds on its Pirelli road performance tyres – rather than the Rally's off-road rubber.

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally made its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, with demonstration runs up the Goodwood hill-climb course driven by 2019 World Rally Championship (WRC) winner and current Ford WRC driver Ott Tänak.
