Bugatti roadster set for Monterey Car Week “last of its kind”
Before Bugatti begins its journey to become an electric car company, the French hypercar manufacturer is poised to reveal a new icon model.
French hypercar manufacturer Bugatti has teased a new roadster based on the 1177kW Chiron, claiming the new model will be the “last of its kind”.
A set of three teaser images have been released by Bugatti on social media platform Twitter, with the French company promising to "unlock an icon".
The latest teaser shows off the silhouette of a roofless car, hinting at Bugatti's new model becoming the first to offer open-air driving since the targa-top Veyron Grand Sport in 2015.
The new Bugatti has four horizontal LEDs in its headlights while the tail-lights incorporate sideways V-shaped LEDs, tying in to an illuminated Bugatti logo across its rear bumper.
While no official details of the Bugatti's latest model have been announced, it is likely the new hypercar will be based on the Chiron.
The Bugatti Chiron was launched in 2016 as a successor to the Veyron, with all Bugatti models and limited-edition variants based on the hypercar since.
Despite Bugatti – formerly owned by German auto giant Volkswagen – now operating under the ownership of Croatian electric hypercar company Rimac, the next generation cars from Bugatti are expected to retain petrol-powered engines, albeit with hybrid assistance.
Bugatti is due to reveal its new roadster at 'The Quail' car show in the US – a part of the annual Monterey Car Week in California – on August 20 at 3:20am Australian Eastern Standard Time.
