Around the Tracks: The Chevrolet pick-up you’re going to want in your garage!

Plus, the iconic ‘Hoonicorn’ hits the racetrack, but this time Ken Block isn't the one behind the wheel.

When we’re not creating it ourselves, the Drive team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here’s a handful of the photos, articles, videos or social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

Icon 4x4 reveals a new Chevy pick-up that we wish we had in our garage.

US company Icon 4x4 has revealed a new retro pick-up – a remodelled 1952 Chevrolet Thriftmaster 3100. The truck has plenty of its original flair but encompasses a tonne of cool, modern additions.

Finished in Chalk White (a Porsche colour), the pick-up comes complete with a black chrome trim, 18-inch forged wheels and Brembo brakes. Inside, the seat upholstery now is micro-sanded high quality leather – also used on the steering wheel – while there's LED lighting under the seats and dashboard, along with a Pioneer 8600NEX sound system.

The truck features a hand-built frame with four-wheel independent suspension and adjustable coilovers. Under the bonnet it packs a Chevy Performance E-Rod 6.2-litre V8, good for 328kW and 583Nm. To add to the fun of being behind the wheel, it's hooked up to a six-speed manual transmission. The price hasn't been revealed but to give you an idea, Icon's TR pick-up starts at approximately $AU400,000. Ouch!

Ken Block's teenage daughter races her dad's iconic Ford Mustang 'Hoonicorn'

If you're familiar with Ken Block then you would have seen his iconic Ford Mustang 'Hoonicorn.' But, as he now has a contract with Audi instead of Ford, it's not him behind the wheel in this drag race. Instead, it's his 14-year old daughter, Lia.

The 'Hoonicorn' is a custom-built Mustang, and was featured regularly in Block's popular Gymkhana series. Under the bonnet lies a 6.7-litre Roush-Yates twin-turbo V8, capable of over 1000 kilowatts.

In this clip it goes up against an NHRA C6 Corvette – powered by a 8.6-litre supercharged Hemi V8 that provides over 2900kW – and has plenty of success winning two of the three drag races. Block celebrates at the end of the video with a well-deserved victory lap and the sound of the V8 is blistering.

Police cars are getting cooler by the minute

If we got pulled over by this police car, we'd be asking for a look inside. The Department of Homeland Security has revealed its fleet for 2022 – led by this Ford Mustang Mach-E, which looks pretty slick.

This Mustang Mach-E will be the very first electric vehicle to get the go-ahead from Michigan state's police evaluation, which takes a range of factors into consideration. The test focuses on the vehicle's top speed, braking, and both high-speed and emergency response handling abilities.

The vehicle tested was based on the Mustang Mach-E GT, complete with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration capable of 358kW and 860Nm. This is one police vehicle that people will definitely have difficulty speeding away from!

The most powerful Morgan has been revealed, with production limited to nine vehicles.

Morgan has just finished its very first example of the Plus 8 GTR – the company's most powerful model ever. The reveal comes ten months after its initial announcement, and the release of official sketches.

The unique creation has a BMW-sourced 4.8-litre V8 tuned to provide 280kW. It also features a sports exhaust system with cannon-like twin outlets claimed to deliver improved throttle response. The engine is mated to a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions, with rear-wheel drive.

It's quite the head turner, sporting race-like, five-spoke centre-lock wheels, remodelled front and rear fenders, a front splitter, GTR front and rear badging, and a hardtop roof. The remaining eight cars are set to be completed before the end of 2021 with pricing yet to be released.

The Land Rover Defender has its own model car – it's cute but basic.

You've likely seen a new Land Rover Defender on the road. It's a pretty rugged looking SUV, but is also known to be costly.

Well if you're a fan of the car, Land Rover's design team have produced a collection of mini models which, as you can see, has seen the team adopt a 'less is more' philosophy. Named the Land Rover Defender Icon Model, there's a choice of three colours: Gloss Black, Gondwana Stone and Pangea Green (above).

The only detailing on this green model comprises white wheels, a white roof, fender vents and blacked-out headlights. The toy car measures in at 16.5cm long and carries a price tag of $AU118 – pretty costly for a mini model that doesn't even include the brand's badge, but a keepsake nonetheless.
