Alpina reveals latest SUV

Alpina has added another SUV to its latest line-up, this time based on the sleek BMW X4 SUV coupe.

The XD4 is the first such bodystyle to enter the Buchloe maker's stable and becomes the world’s fastest diesel-powered SUV.

Powered by the same 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine of the new XD3, the XD4 also gets four turbos over the Bavarian-based motor’s two and produces 285kW of power between 4000-5000rpm and 770Nm of torque between 1750-3000rpm.

The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive with active rear limited-slip differential.

The whole setup is good for a 0-100km/h sprint in 4.6 seconds and maxes out with a top speed of 268km/h, 0.2 second faster than the Bentley Bentayga Diesel SUV and with nearly the same top speed. 

Optional 395mm cross-drilled rotors with blue callipers also improve stopping power for class-leading bite, according to the exclusive marque. 

Changes to the exterior over the base BMW model include a new rear boot spoiler, L-shape taillights and sporty rear diffuser. The lower front bumper has been replaced and features 3D printed Alpine lettering instead of being stickered on the lip spoiler.

Inside, the digital dash gets a unique Alpina configured array and the trim is finished in fine leather with Alpina embossed seat backs, unique steering wheel and individual plaque on the centre console. 

Australians - if the car makes it down under - will miss out on the quad-turbo powerplant that doesn’t fit into right-hand drive engine bays and instead get a revised version of the twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight-six which is only a touch slower. Given our recent influx of the luxe-badged BMWs there's a good chance they will arrive to our shores after Europe.

Alpina is yet to confirm when orders and deliveries will commence in its home continent.
