2025 Range Rover Electric teased, promises V8 performance in silence

The electric version of the full-size luxury Range Rover is due next year with bold claims of being "the quietest and most refined Range Rover ever created."

The 2025 Range Rover Electric – the official name of the battery-powered Range Rover – has been teased ahead of its introduction next year.

Expressions of interest – branded as a "waiting list" – for the electric Range Rover have opened ahead of a formal start to pre-orders next year. Deliveries are expected next year or in 2025, based on previous announcements.

The battery-powered model will sit on the same underpinnings as the petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid versions, and built on the same production line in Solihull, UK.

Few technical details have been released, however the British car maker claims "performance comparable to a flagship Range Rover V8".

The most powerful V8 Range Rover today is the SV, which uses a 4.4-litre twin-turbo mild-hybrid BMW engine developing 452kW and 750Nm.

The electric Range Rover will use an 800-volt electrical architecture – similar to a Porsche Taycan or Hyundai Ioniq 5, which are among the fastest-charging electric vehicles on sale today – though the company has not gone into detail on charging times or driving range.

Land Rover promises "go-anywhere capability [which] will ensure towing, wading and all-terrain technology surpass any other luxury electric SUV," quoting a wading depth of 850mm.

The company also claims it will be "the quietest and most refined Range Rover ever created," with active noise cancellation technology to reduce road noise.

Teaser images show styling differences between electric and internal combustion-engined (petrol, diesel and hybrid) Range Rovers will be minor, limited to details such as new wheels with 'EV' centre caps, and a partly closed-off front grille insert.

Land Rover says the first prototypes for the electric Range Rover are hitting the road now – after a year of virtual testing – and will be tested in climates ranging from -40 degrees Celsius in Sweden, to 50 degrees in Dubai.

More details of the 2025 Range Rover Electric are due closer to its launch, expected next year or 2025.
