2025 Nissan Patrol spied again, specs of twin-turbo V6 engine previewed

As Nissan's luxury brand Infiniti prepares to unveil its new QX80, spy photos of the upcoming Patrol show the four-wheel-drive being tested in the US.

Spy photos of a camouflaged 2025 Nissan Patrol have emerged online from the US, where the large SUV is badged as the Armada.

The images, posted to Instagram by @kindelauto, appear to show larger, more upright headlamp clusters than those seen on other pre-production Patrol vehicles being tested by Nissan engineers.

One of the photos shows the Patrol with its bonnet up, showing the twin-turbo V6 engine confirmed for the new 4WD by executives last year.

The images come at the same time as Nissan's overseas luxury brand, Infiniti, showed off the QX80 – a direct competitor to the Lexus LX.

Based on the Patrol, the QX80 will be powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine sending 336kW and 698Nm to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

It compares to 298kW/560Nm from the previous 5.6-litre V8, matched with a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Infiniti says the "gear ratio range" – the spread from first gear, to top gear – is 40 per cent larger for improved highway fuel efficiency, while active grille shutters can be closed at the front to reduce aerodynamic drag and lower petrol consumption.

Full details will be revealed at the car's unveiling later this month, but Infiniti says the new QX80 features greater torsional rigidity than the previous model, air suspension, and a quieter interior.

While the Infiniti uses flush door handles and a horizontal air vent on the front quarter panels (ahead of the mirrors), the Patrol will retain more traditional pull-type door handles, and adopt vertical quarter-panel vents in line with the front doors.

There's no word yet on when the 2025 Nissan Patrol will be unveiled, but expect more details on the model when the Infiniti QX80 is shown on 20 March 2024, US time.
