2025 Nissan Navara: Our first glimpse of the all-new global ute

Images of the new-generation Navara have been teased by Nissan, months ahead of the ute's expected debut.

A shadowy silhouette of the 2025 Nissan Navara has been teased during a presentation by the company's chief executive officer.

It's the first time the new-generation Navara has been seen, with Nissan expected to unveil the all-new ute before the end of the year – as exclusively reported by Drive in January 2023 – ahead of its debut in 2025.

The Navara will share its underpinnings with the recently-unveiled Mitsubishi Triton, as part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, though it will enter production roughly nine to 12 months after the Triton.

In the presentation, Nissan CEO Makato Uchida confirmed a "one-tonne pick-up" would be released in the Oceania region – being one of two models to debut locally before April 2026.

The new Navara is also expected to be sold in the US, replacing the ageing Frontier pick-up – which was based on the older D40 Navara, first going on sale there in 2004.

While the Navara and the Triton appear to share the same silhouette, it's not clear how closely the two utes will be related – whether Nissan will borrow Mitsubishi's 150kW/470Nm 2.4-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder engine, or if it will push for its own engine.

Confidential production plans cited by Drive in January 2023 show the Navara is due to enter production in Thailand in the coming months, with manufacturing in the US set to follow two years later.

Plug-in hybrid and electric versions of the "one-tonne pick-up" are coming, but those have yet to be confirmed for the Australian market.
