The new 2024 Toyota LandCruiser Prado four-wheel-drive has been teased in the US, ahead of its expected unveiling by the end of this year.

The teaser images were released in the US, where the new Prado will reprise the LandCruiser badge after a three-year hiatus – with retro styling cues from 1960s and 1980s Toyota LandCruiser models.

And the retro US look may be available in Australia as an option – if a post from Toyota Australia on Twitter with these US teaser images is a guide.

Hybrid power is due to be available in the US – with a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine – while it is expected some form of diesel engine will be offered in Australia.

The US Prado, and the model for the rest of the world are planned to wear different front and rear styling – as exclusively reported by Drive last month – but are slated to share their side profiles with the Lexus GX, the luxury twin to the Prado expected to reach Australia next year for the first time.

It is set to give all three vehicles a bolder and boxier exterior design than the outgoing Toyota Prado – with the US version to gain retro styling cues inspired by the 1960s LandCruiser 40 Series, and a more hardcore off-road focus.

Increasing the brightness of the US teaser image confirms the Lexus GX connection – evident in the stepped side window line – and previews a front end reminiscent of illustrations created by Japanese magazine Best Car from its well-placed Toyota sources, which inspired Drive's illustrations below.

For the US market, there appear to be 3D-effect headlight signatures with vertical daytime-running lights, and vertical tail-lights again with a 3D-effect LED pattern.

Both vehicles are expected to be unveiled before the end of this year, ahead of first overseas showroom arrivals early to mid next year.
