20 December 2023, 2:55pm: Polestar Australia has supplied amended prices for the 2024 Polestar 4 line-up. This story has been updated with the new prices.
19 December 2023, 3:05pm: The 2024 Polestar 4 electric SUV is due in Australian showrooms in August next year priced from $81,500 plus on-road costs.
The Chinese-owned Volvo electric-car spin-off's mid-size SUV will be available in a choice of single-motor, rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variants with up to 600km of claimed driving range.
Prices have surfaced early in a third-party industry pricing guide ahead of further details – and the opening of order books – due next year, and showroom arrivals in August 2024, pending any delays.
The single-motor Polestar is priced from $81,500 plus on-road costs – competitive with a Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD ($78,400) – while the dual-motor Polestar 4 is $93,050, in line with a Model Y Performance.
However a range of option packs are available, which can push the list price of the flagship model after Luxury Car Tax to $125,000 plus on-road costs – or more than $130,000 drive-away.
As reported at the car's unveiling earlier this year, the Polestar 4 does not have a rear window, instead rear-facing vision is delivered through a camera in the back of the car, and a screen where the rear-view mirror would usually sit.
Polestar says this allows the car's glass roof to extend past the rear passengers' heads, in turn moving the structural crossbars of the roof behind the occupants – and increasing rear-seat headroom.
Standard features across the model line-up include 20-inch wheels, LED headlights, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, 15.4-inch touchscreen with Google built-in apps and Apple CarPlay, eight speakers, a power tailgate, dual-zone climate control, and a suite of advanced safety technology.
A list of standard equipment as published on the industry database – as well as known option packages – is included at the bottom of this story.
The Dual Motor is currently above the Australian government's current Luxury Car Tax threshold for electric vehicles ($89,332) – however this may change by the time deliveries begin in August, as the LCT threshold is due to increase by a yet-to-be-confirmed amount on July 1.
Ticking every option box on the Long Range Dual Motor – after Luxury Car Tax – pushes the price above $125,000 plus on-road costs. The option prices in the equipment list below exclude LCT.
There is no mention of the Pilot Pack – with semi-autonomous driving capabilities on the motorway – but this may become available later.
Powering the Long Range Single Motor is a 200kW/343Nm rear electric motor and 94kWh battery (usable capacity), good for an estimated 600km of driving range in European WLTP lab testing, a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of 7.1 seconds, and a 180km/h top speed.
Meanwhile the Long Range Dual Motor combines the same battery with front and rear electric motors for outputs of 400kW/686Nm, enabling a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.8 seconds, 200km/h top speed, an 560km WLTP driving range.
The Polestar 4 is capable of fast charging at up to 200kW on a DC socket, or 22kW on an AC plug – the former reportedly good for a five to 80 per cent recharge in 32 minutes in ideal conditions, and the latter a zero to 100 per cent charge in 5.5 hours.
It measures 4839mm long, 2139mm wide (with mirrors) and 1544mm tall, riding on a 2999mm wheelbase – 88mm longer overall, 10mm wider and 109mm longer between the wheels than a Tesla Model Y, but 80mm lower.
The 2024 Polestar 4 – built in China – is due in Australian showrooms next August, pending any delays.
