2024 Polestar 2 BST Edition 230 electric car unveiled

The high-performance version of the Polestar 2 electric car has received an update for Europe and the US – but it's no closer to Australian showrooms.

Volvo's electric-car spin-off Polestar has updated its challenger for the Tesla Model 3 Performance – now known as the 2024 Polestar 2 BST Edition 230 – but there are still no plans for an Australian launch.

The BST Edition 230 is an updated version of the BST Edition 270, a special edition revealed last year to sit atop the Polestar 2 range with more power, upgraded suspension, larger wheels and brakes, and unique styling.

Just 230 examples of the new version will be offered in left-hand drive for Europe and North America – down from 270 of the first BST Edition model. None will come to Australia, Polestar has confirmed.

Additions for the BST Edition 230 over the 270 include exclusive Nebula green exterior paint (not available on any other Polestar 2), and microsuede upholstery for the seats and steering wheel inserts, said to have been made from "partly-recycled" Nubuck textile.

Polestar says the car can also be ordered in Space black – compared to white or grey paint options for the BST Edition 270 – with both green and black versions available with a full-length body stripe.

The Polestar 2 BST Edition 230 picks up the new front grille insert fitted to standard Model Year 2024 (MY24) Polestar 2s, with a flat panel finished in black.

But it is otherwise unchanged from the previous BST Edition 270 – and misses out on the performance upgrades introduced for regular MY24 dual-motor versions.

The BST Edition 230 retains the 350kW/680Nm dual-motor drivetrain from the 270, rather than the updated 350kW/740Nm system – which biases more of that power to the rear wheels – added for the 2024 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor with Performance Pack.

Polestar claims an unchanged 0-100km/h sprint time of 4.4 seconds – 0.2 seconds slower than the 2024 Long Range Dual Motor with Performance Pack – and a 200km/h top speed.

Upgrades over the regular Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor – shared with the BST Edition 270 – include specially-tuned manually-adjustable Ohlins shock absorbers, a 25mm-lower ride height, stiffer springs, and a front strut bar for added stiffness.

It also features 21-inch forged alloy wheels finished in black, 245/35 R21 Pirelli P Zero tyres developed specially for the car, and four-piston Brembo front performance brakes with 400mm drilled discs.

Other tweaks include black mirror caps, and body-coloured wheel-arch cladding and side skirts.

There are 'Swedish gold’ accents on the brake calipers, suspension, wheel valve caps and seat belts, shared with the standard Performance Pack-equipped Polestar 2.

The 230 examples of the 2024 Polestar 2 BST Edition 230 electric car planned are now available to order in "European and North American Polestar markets" – all with the steering wheel on the left side – ahead of first deliveries due between July and September 2023.
