2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS price and specs: Facelifted SUV up to $16,000 dearer

Mercedes-Benz’s flagship GLS SUV is arriving in Australia this month following a small cosmetic, performance and technology update overseas.

  • 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS pricing and specifications
  • Line-up trimmed to three variants
  • Updated appearance and equipment
  • Priced from $184,900 plus on-road costs

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS has received a facelift and price rise in Australia, as the German luxury SUV goes on sale in local showrooms this month.

A revised version of the GLS which debuted in 2019, Mercedes-Benz’s flagship SUV has been mildly revised for 2024 – both inside and outside – with new features across the model range.

There are now three variants on offer – the turbo-diesel GLS450d, plus the twin-turbo petrol V8 GLS63 AMG and GLS600 Maybach.

Priced from $184,900 plus on-road costs, the GLS450d 4MATIC replaces both the outgoing petrol-powered GLS450 and the turbo-diesel GLS400d, with price increases of $14,731 and $6931 respectively – owing to a new 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

The performance GLS63 AMG 4MATIC+ grade now starts from $299,990 plus on-road costs – a price increase of $11,630 – while the flagship luxury GLS600 Maybach 4MATIC has cracked the $400,000 barrier, priced from $409,900 (up $15,931).

Headlining the changes to the GLS for 2024 is a new front bumper, a larger grille and fresh tail-lights, with new wheel designs for the AMG and Maybach.

Inside, each variant is equipped with dual 12.3-inch infotainment screens, now running Mercedes-Benz’s latest software for faster and smoother operation.

The GLS’s steering wheel has also been revised and now features touch-sensitive controls, rather than the outgoing model’s traditional buttons and dials.

Standard equipment across all grades includes a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats (and heated-only rear), a head-up display, a 360-degree camera and a suite of safety features.

The Mercedes-Benz GLS450d 4MATIC is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine and 48-volt mild-hybrid system, producing 270kW and 750Nm – improvements of 27kW and 50Nm compared to its GLS400d predecessor.

Outputs are unchanged for the 4.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 engines powering the GLS63 AMG and GLS600 Maybach, which continue to develop 450kW/850Nm and 410kW/730Nm respectively.

All examples of the GLS are equipped with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The GLS63 AMG adds bespoke tail lights, an active ride control system and an AMG performance steering wheel, among other features.

Mercedes’ luxury-focused GLS600 Maybach gains a rear-seat entertainment system (with screens built into the back of the front seat headrests and two wireless headsets), 23-inch wheels, and electric sunblinds for its rear doors, among many additional features.

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS model range is due in Australian showrooms this month.
