2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV price and specs: Prices increase up to $1000

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV will join the Outlander PHEV by offering owners the ability to run their domestic appliances with an outlet in its boot – set to become available on its top two variants.

  • Vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology now available
  • Minor equipment updates for all three grades
  • Priced from $47,290 plus on-road costs

Mitsubishi Australia has announced a handful of updates for the 2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV – including the ability to supply power to certain domestic appliances – when the plug-in hybrid SUV arrives in March.

For 2023, Mitsubishi has increased the prices of its three Eclipse Cross PHEV (plug-in hybrid) variants by up to $1000, with the base ES grade now starting from $47,290 plus on-road costs – up $300 from its previous price.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV’s mid-range Aspire grade has been hit with a $750 price increase – now $51,250 plus on-road costs – while the flagship Exceed variant is priced from $55,990, a premium of $1000.

2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Exceed PHEV

According to Mitsubishi Australia, the 2023 Eclipse Cross PHEV’s Aspire and Exceed grades will now be equipped with ‘Vehicle-to-Load’ (or V2L) capabilities, allowing its battery to supply power as well as receive it.

A 240-volt outlet in the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV’s boot allows owners to plug in domestic appliances which are rated at up to 1500 watts.

The technology was recently rolled out in the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, though the larger Outlander is fitted with two 240V outlets rather than the Eclipse Cross PHEV’s single socket. Buyers who opt for the ES grades of both SUVs miss out on the technology.

Additional changes to the 2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV include USB-A and USB-C ports for second-row occupants.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross ES PHEV ES will also now be fitted with rear parking sensors as standard, previously available on the Aspire and Exceed only.

Cosmetic updates have been applied to the Eclipse Cross Aspire PHEV, which now features a silver lower front bumper (with a silver insert), a black grille surround, black side door trim, plus a black and silver rear lower bumper.

The flagship Eclipse Cross Exceed PHEV has also scored a minor equipment upgrade – now fitted with an electric tailgate with hands-free operation and one-touch opening – while buyers can option a new light grey leather interior (pictured below) for no extra cost.

Mitsubishi’s Eclipse Cross PHEV continues to be powered by a 94kW/199Nm 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which is paired with two electric motors – a 70kW/195Nm motor at the rear, and a 60kW/137Nm motor up front.

While Mitsubishi doesn’t provide combined power and torque figures, the SUV can drive for up to 55km on electric power – according to Australian testing figures – thanks to its 13.8kWh battery, while claiming a fuel economy figure of 1.9L/100km.

The 2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV is due in Australian showrooms in March 2023.
