2021 GWM Ute Cannon 4×4 prices rise as 4×2 goes on sale
The company's online configurator shows prices have gone up across the range, while a new two-wheel-drive model has been introduced.
The 2021 GWM Ute Cannon 4x4 has gone up in price by $1500, just half a year after going on sale.
At the same time, GWM has introduced the Ute Cannon in 4x2 for $33,490 drive-away – just $500 less than the 4x4 variant was offered for in January 2021.
While only available in four-wheel drive, both the mid-range Ute Cannon-L and range-topping Ute Cannon-X have gone up by $1000 each, to $38,990 drive-away and $41,990 drive-away respectively.
All models are powered by a 120kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.
While the Chinese car company has yet to formally announce the changes, the new rear-wheel-drive GWM Ute and revised pricing have appeared on its online configurator.
The move aligns with a July 2021 production change in which GWM – previously known as Great Wall Motors – upgraded the Ute to reduce turbo lag and improve throttle response, following customer feedback.
Standard-fit Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were also added to the Ute's infotainment system as part of the rolling update.
GWM have promised a manual transmission would be offered with the July update, but the option has yet to appear on the configurator.
Certification documents submitted to the Department of Infrastructure and unearthed in February 2021 show GWM is planning to introduce a single-cab ute body at some point in the future, though timing has not been confirmed.
