2018 BMW X2 – Price And Features For Australia

BMW will slot a second small SUV into its range when the style-led X2 arrives as an alternative to the more practical, but still compact X1 range with which it shares its basic platform.

Australian customers will be offered just one specification of the new X2 initially, with the X2 sDrive 20i priced from $55,900 before on-road costs from March 2018.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 141kW and 280Nm and is coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that drives the front wheels.

To help position the X2 as a more upscale offering compared to the X1, the sDrive 20i will come with a comprehensive list of standard features including 19-inch alloy wheels, LED cornering headlights with auto high-beam, LED fog lights, M rear spoiler, M suspension and an auto tailgate.

Standard on Australian-delivered cars will be BMW’s first ‘M Sport X’ styling package, with contrasting Frozen Grey exterior highlights and satin aluminum trim parts. An optional M Sport package available at no extra cost which brings sportier styling and dark chrome trims.

The interior features front sports seats trimmed in Alcantara trim with contrast stitching, M leather steering wheel, dark grey headliner, interior lights package and a 6.5-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation and a rear view camera, a 5.7-inch digital information display, a parking assistant and an anti-dazzle rear-view mirror.

The M Sport interior brings blue stitching, matt blue aluminium hexagon decor pieces, backed up a different alloy wheel design outside.

Safety specification for the X2 includes lane departure warning, pedestrian warning with autonomous emergency braking and forward collision warning, speed limit info, front and rear park sensors, and rear-view camera.

A number of optional extras packages are offered by BMW that offer the opportunity to upgrade tech, exterior styling and interior upgrade packages with prices ranging between $2600 and $3300.

BMW should expand the range after the initial launch with a diesel-powered offering, most likely to mimic the X1's 18d and the potential for an all-wheel drive X2 25i range-topper.
