2016 Holden Trax Active arrives at $23,990 drive-away
Holden has re-introduced the Trax Active special edition, a better-equipped and cheaper iteration of the base Trax LS.
The Holden Trax Active adds 17-inch alloy wheels, an electric sunroof, roof racks, chrome door handles and… an Active badge, to the entry Trax LS.
The price is $23,990 drive-away, which compares to the $23,990 list price (as in, before on-road costs) of the regular base Trax LS without these features.
That said, we’d note that said Trax LS is presently on offer for $22,990 drive-away with a free automatic transmission and three-years free servicing, so nobody pays the RRP.
A 7.0-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth/USB, Siri Eyes Free and a reversing camera is also standard on the MY16 Trax range. As are reverse parking sensors.
Under the Trax Active's bonnet is the base car’s 103kW/175Nm 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, sending torque to the front wheels via either a five-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic — Holden charges the same either way. The 1.4 turbo doesn't feature.
You might recall that Holden offered the same Trax Active in May 2015, priced at that time from $24,990 drive-away. Holden regularly offers limited-edition Trax variants, such as the Trax Black with its 18-inch black alloy wheels released earlier this year.
These editions are designed to keep the Trax in the hunt against rival small SUVs such as the Mazda CX-3 and Suzuki Vitara, though the little Holden’s value equation is pretty sharp.
The Holden Trax owns 6.7 per cent market share this year, placing it behind the CX-3, Mitsubishi ASX (the Trax’s fellow discount king), Honda HR-V and Subaru XV.
As we have reported, a heavily updated Trax will arrive at the end of 2016 or in early 2017. It’ll be Holden’s version of the Chevrolet Trax, rather than the European Opel Mokka. It gets a redesigned cabin and new frontal exterior design.
The Trax Active launches at the same as special editions of two other key models — the Colorado 7 Trailblazer and Colorado Storm.
