Volkswagen has released a first teaser image for its brand-spanking-new 2013 Golf, which will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show. An event is also planned for Berlin, early next month.
Until now, the German giant had revealed only basic details of the new car's 'MQB' platform, along with a few hints on the names and capabilities of its new powertrains.
The new platform and construction techniques will make the 2013 Golf much lighter than its predecessor, and the smaller Mark IV of the late 90s had been mooted as the VII's goal weight.
New details reveal that the new Golf will measure 4255mm long, 1799mm wide and 1452mm tall, making for a 56mm and 28mm increase in length and width - and a sleeker-looking 28mm reduction in height.
Inside, overall cabin length grows by 14mm, and rear legroom is improved by 15mm. Shoulder room grows by 31mm up front and 30mm in the rear, and storage behind the back seats is up 30 litres to 380 litres.
The new Golf's kerb weight is up to 100kg lighter than its predecessor, with 38kg gone from the body, 26kg lost through greater use of aluminium, 12kg from equipment components and 3kg from wiring.
