The biggest of Jaguar's cats, the XJ executive saloon, has joined the smaller XF in getting a run of significant upgrades for the 2013 model year.
Revealed earlier this year, the XJ has picked up Jag's new 3.0 litre supercharged V6, almost completely replacing the naturally-aspirated V8 engine of the 2012 model.
In the XJ, as it does in the XF, the super-six produces 250kW and 450Nm of torque, compared to 283kW and 515Nm in the V8.
Yes, that means power is down, but so is fuel consumption: Jag promises a low 13 l/100km in city driving, an 8.4 l/100km on the highway.
The XJ also gains a new ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the six-speed unit of the current model.
