Road Trip USA: Pacific Coast Highway in a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda

Wafting from corner to corner in the hills behind the Pacific Coast Highway south of Santa Monica, I’m evocatively transported back to 1969. Thin steering wheel in hand, the rock of the body from corner to corner as the suspension loads up, automatic gearbox whirring away quietly, raucous exhaust note echoing off the rock walls, the salty So Cal breeze rolling through the immaculate cabin off the ocean...

Editor's Pick: Eifel mountains in the Mercedes 300 CE 6.0 AMG 'Hammer'

First published August 12, 2017. As we all work hard at celebrating the end of a big year and the start of a new one, we're looking back on some favourites of 2017!  The sharp right-hander, just before the town of Hirten in Germany’s Eifel mountains, approaches faster than you think...

2018 Mercedes-Benz E300 Cabriolet review

It's hard to pick the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet from the S-Class, but even with a turbo-four under the bonnet, it's still a lot of car for the money – and a great buy for the more prudent buyer.

2018 Mercedes-Benz Vito 111 CDI review

The Mercedes-Benz Vito 111 CDI range-opener isn't as expensive as you'd think, and the depth of engineering shows. Plus, side airbags are standard fit these days, so fear not.

2017 Mercedes Marco Polo review

See the full article here. Vans are very popular, not only as a way to move things from place to place while keeping them dry, but intrepid travellers have found all manner of ways to convert them into manageable mobile homes. If you're looking for that versatility off the showroom floor and can do without the extra row of seats in the van, then the Mercedes Marco Polo Activity could well be worth a look...

2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class First Look

See the full review here. The facelifted 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class has a fairly difficult row to hoe despite appearances to the contrary. In the face of stiffer competition than ever before, it needs to maintain its status as the luxury flagship, the technological leader for the brand and a pointer to the future of luxury motoring...

Mercedes-Benz Comparisons

2017 Audi Q5 2.0 TDI Sport v Mercedes-Benz GLC 220d comparison

Luxury car makers absolutely love producing mid-sized SUVs based on passenger-car platforms, because aspirational upper-middle class family types are buying them in droves. The newest entrant to the class is Audi's second-generation Q5, which pairs clinical design with cutting-edge cabin tech and typically Teutonic execution...

2017 BMW 530i vs Mercedes-Benz E300 sedan comparison

While Bill Murray began every Groundhog Day at 6AM back in the early ’90s, the perpetual time warp I’m currently finding myself in starts with ‘5’ and ends with ‘Series sedan from BMW’. Since the all-new seventh-generation 2017 BMW 5 Series range lobbed locally in March, I've sampled both petrol 530i fours and 540i sixes, spent a week with diesel six-cylinder 530d in May, and attended the 530e iPerformance PHEV’s local launch in June...

Mercedes-Benz E220d All Terrain v Volvo V90 Cross Country comparison

If you're anything like me, you think SUVs are purpose-built to define drivers as kid-ferrying lemmings. Why can't you have the ability to haul kids, but the practicality of style and occasional off-road ability. That's what the people at Volvo and Mercedes-Benz thought when they created the Volvo V90 Cross Country and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain...

The dance of the machines: Inside Mercedes-Benz's Düsseldorf factory

Ever wondered what goes on inside an automotive assembly plant? We did too, so when Mercedes-Benz offered CarAdvice the chance to tour its Düsseldorf factory where it builds its popular Sprinter vans, we jumped at the chance. There’s an eerie beauty in the dance of the machines. Huge orange arms loom large, a menacing presence dancing to an accompaniment of an industrial orchestra, metallic and sonorous...

Mercedes-Benz recalls A, B, C, E, GLA and GLC

Mercedes-Benz has recalled almost 22,000 cars across the A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, E-Class, GLA and GLC model lines, over concerns the driver airbag could inflate without warning. According to the company, electrostatic discharge could trigger the airbag if the steering column isn't sufficiently, or if the column switch module isn't grounded...

2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class revealed, here in Q3

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the 2018 C-Class refresh, with more technology and a slightly tweaked exterior. The changes start outside, where the (now four year-old) exterior has been reworked with new headlights and tail-lights. AMG Line cars now come with a diamond grille, and the front bumper is more aggressive than before...

2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG review

What comes to mind if I told you to think about Mercedes-AMG 10 years ago? Is it images of big, powerful, ruthless beasts? Or high displacement, naturally aspirated V8s that sound snarlier and raspier than the cough of a man that has been smoking all his life? Perhaps what immediately came to mind was an AMG effortlessly painting a set of skids along the road? Well, if what came to mind is similar to what I just wrote about, you’d be right on the money...

2015 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350d review

I cross-shopped the whole range of mid to large SUVs before opting for the Mercedes-Benz GLE 350d. I am in my sixties and I do zero off-road driving. The Merc was purchased for ride height and safety features. My driving is mainly in Queensland and good ride height is vital when roads can become flooded in an instant...

1994 Mercedes-Benz S320 review

Released in 1992, the Mercedes-Benz S Class could arguably be one of the last cars built to the 'the best or nothing' motto. The sheer presence, vault-like build quality and incredible attention to detail command it to being a car almost like no other. It was referred to as 'the cathedral on wheels' when it first came out by the press – a result of the US$1 billion development costs that changed the automotive landscape...

2012 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG review

You can ignore the background of how I came to own this car by skipping the first few paragraphs. Entirely up to you. My first (real) car was a 2005 VZ SS Holden Commodore. I had just turned 22. I remember the excitement of picking it up and being the only person in my suburb to have that model, at the time...
