2013 Kia Grand Carnival S review
Owner Review | 24 Mar 2017
I bought my Kia Grand Carnival about 6 months ago after some careful research.I had read many reviews about the Grand Carnival, some of which were very negative but I was determined to give it a fair chance. My main prerequisite was it had to have a lot of useful cargo space without being too van like. No other large SUVs qualified (yes I measured many with a tape measure!) and in the people mover range only the Kia Carnival allowed me to fold all the rear seats. We only have one small toddler but I am also a professional musician who often needs to carry a full PA in the back, and also have a cleaning business. Occasionally I need to use it as a people mover and carry 6-7 people so it had to be versatile. The Grand Carnival has performed magnificently and effortlessly in this respect. Passengers have even commented to me how comfortable the velour seats are, even the back row. The V6 engine performs smoothly and has amazing torque. In fact when I took it for a test drive the salesman managed to get wheel spin from the front wheels as we drove out of the car yard! At the beginning one has to be careful not to down the accelerator too hard otherwise wheel screech will result! I was a little apprehensive about fuel economy before I bought, but my concerns were put to rest quite quickly. Over 25 days of urban driving it averaged 12.9 ltrs/100 klm and on a weekend highway with a full load only it was 10.7/100klms. My X Trail which I traded in wasn't doing much better than that! The interior is very roomy and gives a lovely feeling of space. Of course it IS a large car (particularly width) and you need to get used to it. I have only around 2" either side of my wing mirrors when entering my garage. I love the deep well space at the rear where the 3rd row of seats are stowed. When they are in place I have a large sunken area for holding shopping, strollers, you name it! However the lack of climate control on the a/c is a disappointment. Obviously on later models this would have been changed but twiddling those dials becomes something of an art. I think the only trade off with this car is that it needs to have regular oil changes with good synthetic oil, being an alloy engine. Also the front tyres especially need regular rotation as being a front wheel drive thats where the wear will be. Overall I am really delighted with my Grand Carnival and it is living up to my expectations in every way. The bonus is even in 2017 I still have a years factory warranty left on it which is extra insurance.
2012 Kia Grand Carnival Platinum Review
Owner Review | 19 Jun 2016
Bought a 4 yr old Platinum, well appointed, low kms, and we love it. Took about a week for my wife to get comfortable. Family drives much more pleasant now with 2 13 yr old boys and 10 yr old daughter. 2 in the middle, one up back seems to be the preferred option - no more elbow fighting. All rows able to recline and with adjustable head rests is great. Loving it so far and it's just funky enough and just bland enough for me. I'm much more into practicality. We'd previously run Mitsubishi Magna station wagons and as able as they were the family was out growing them. Moving from the Sports mode auto of the Magna to the Kia has been okay - the Kia has a manual (sports) mode shift although it doesn't drop the gears like the Magna did which I've had to get used to. It is clear that the styling is a little dated - and by contrast to the new 2015 on Carnival the 'datedness' is clearly illustrated via the contrast. However - for the purpose of a practical family mover it's not nearly so critical to have 'look at me' stylings. Don't mind the lack of GPS as via phones one has pretty well all that one needs for that anyway. Parking has taken a little getting used to - I was a 'gun' at reverse parking the Magna even in 'public' - taking a slightly more conservative approach in the Kia. The flexibility of the seat configurations is brilliant. Although the kids have taken a little getting used to the 'straps'. The multi zone climate control is great too. Again - the kids loved having 'control' over their environment. For us it is our 'magic bus', and I need to find each week a couple of excuses to take it for a spin as it's my wifes day to day vehicle.
2010 Kia Grand Carnival Platinum Review
Owner Review | 20 May 2015
and there we have it...the perfect family hauler. its big both in and out. inside there is enough room 8 adults. 8 adults! the leg room, and head height room is just enormous. it is also extremely comfy, which means, that you can travel for very a very long distance trip, and never really get a sore backside! you literally don't!. The kids are chuffed to bits with the Carnival, basically because of the sheer space inside. the performance isn't the best off the line, with a 2.9 TDI with 134 kW and 343 Nm, but with around 8.0L/100km, you can very easily whip out 850+kms out of a tank of diesel. the engine is coupled to a 5 speeder with tip tronic, which is relatively smooth. we bought the Kia brand new for $48,990, which is very cheap for the amount of gear/kit that you get. the interface/audio system, maybe a little dated, but for some reason, it has got one of the best sounding/clearest speaker system I have ever come across. with two massive factory speakers in the very back row, the music or whatever you're playing can be heard clearly in every corner of the car. its just fantastic! when buying this car we where looking for a vehicle which occupied the needs of the family, but also keeping it economical. and that is just what Kia has done. its a very like-able economical family hauler ready for anything that you will throw at it. actually it really is! a few weekends ago we packed the car with camping kit and headed. part of our trip involved tackling a muddy track with pot holes, and puddles. now with our Kia, which probably weighs the best part of 2.1 tonnes, I just had to floor it through all the boggy stuff. And what do you know? we pulled through as if it wasn't there! (apart from the bouncy pot-holes!). I thought we would honestly get stuck, but with a lot of gutsy torque coming from low down, it seemed very easy! -and yes the Kia was extremely muddy after that trip! another thing that I noticed on our trip was that none of the family was moaning about having sore rumps!!! we were quite pleased with the seating layout, and more importantly...the comfort. i think Kia has really hit gold with the Carnival. you can see it with the 2015 model, it just looks great, and retains all the cabin space, and comfort.

2007 Kia Grand Carnival (ex) Review
Owner Review | 5 Jan 2015
Our 2007 Carnival, is the best family car we have ever owned. It is the most comfortable long distance car, l find with the excellent high seating postion in the front seats very comfortable and even the middle row seats l can seat my six foot and abit frame in and enjoy watching a DVD while the tray holds my HJ's safety in front of me on the table. Sure my legs are either side of the table but it is not uncomfortable. The only thing which is missing on this model is armrests for the middle row. Mechanical, we have had no problems of the car leaving us stranded onthe roadside, sure when one headlight globe blows the other one blows in Symphony. Still have been ablle to return home safely. I recommend this vehicle to any young family or young couple who are starting a family, because it is one vehicle that can be in the family from the kids baby stage until they get their own cars in their teen years. Servicing of the Kia has been top notch, the craftsmanship is acredit the men and women involved getting this vehicle out to the showrooms. It has plenty of cup/ bottle holders noise wise is very minimal the ride in any part of the vehicle is comfortable. The instant throttle response from the 3.8 V6 is always on tap to overtake in a short distance, stopping is quick and responsive, and that turning circle is excellent and the fact that it can turn inn its own length. OH! Don't keep marking it against the Honda Odyssey. The Kia Carnival is not in the same class. The Carnival is the top car in People Mover class. Look the boot space is so big when eight people are in the seats it ( the boot) can handle all their luggage for a holiday at a beach house without having to stuffthe luggage under seats. Even though, we only towed a six by four box covered trailer with our tents, spare trailer tyre and the rest of the camping gear. I have seen this model and year towing a caravan with a full load of people withease.
