When last I reviewed the Passat I was quite impressed. Then I test drove the Touareg R50 and was blown away. When I borrowed the Golf R32, I didn’t return home for a week. Can you imagine then my joy at being slung in to the cockpit of Volkswagen’s latest R offering?

Fifth Gear Volkswagen Scirocco review

It may have been knocked back from entering the US market due to its confliction with the existing Golf GTi, but Volkswagen’s stunning Scirocco has just been flogged by the guys at Fifth Gear and it comes up trumps.

Utilising Golf GTi running gear, the Scirocco benefits from a lower wider and sexier body amongst a few other neat tricks which Tom Ford happily demonstrates in this video.

Porsche plans coup against Volkswagen Chairman

If you thought your office politics were bad, you will have to feel a little for Volkswagen Chairman Ferdinand Piëch who is rumoured to be out the door today after Porsche Chairman Wolfgang Porsche (Piëch’s cousin) is expected to remove him.

A German magazine has published the news today saying Mr Porsche has gained majority support among shareholders that own his family’s carmaker. “It is not a question of ‘if’, rather ‘when’ and ‘how’,” the Magazine quoted one Porsche manager as saying.

It’s been a few months since we first had the exciting new Tiguan visit the CarAdvice office and although we were highly impressed last time, we couldn’t help but wonder if driving the more sought after automatic model would change our opinion of VWs marvelous mid-sized SUV.

Work is under way to develop the hottest ever version of Ingolstadt’s sports coupe, likely to be badged TT RS. It promises to be a real alternative to the Porsche Cayman when it goes on sale in late 2008 in Europe (Australian release date still uncertain).

The TT RS will use a 2.5-litre in-line five-cylinder petrol unit, ten years since Audi last used a similarly designed engine. Early reports indicate that Audi will boost performance to a hefty 260kW using twin sequential turbochargers.
