CarAdvice ‘Green Project’ underway

ca_green_project_001.jpgWe at CarAdvice often feel morally obliged to be more environmentally aware, especially given the nature of our subject matter is a big contributor to green house gas emissions.

Sure, we’ve got a paperless office, we minimalise and offset our power consumption, and have staff spread over four capital cities to reduce flying hours on Press Launches.

But in a bid to be even more socially responsible, we decided sometime back to undertake a program whereby CarAdvice plants a tree for every car road tested.

‘Green Project’ consists of a modest plantation which is now firmly established, and in keeping with our theme, consists solely of Australian natives indigenous to the area and is set in an area where it is hoped to have a fighting chance in reducing soil erosion.

Bugatti Bonanza for Winton Historic

Following our drive of the breath taking Bugatti Veyron earlier this year comes news on some slightly more mature Bugattis racing in this year’s Winton Historic to be held May 24-25 at Winton Motor Raceway, Winton, Victoria.

This year’s event also celebrates some key milestones in both motoring and motor racing history with Ford’s model T and General Motors (brand) each celebrating a centenary, Holden’s 60th, Monaro’s 40th and a raft of others.

More traffic madness for Melbourne

Melbourne Motorists, already subjected to months of delays with the Eastlink Project, now face even more mayhem over the coming 18 months as the Westgate Freeway is upgraded.

Said to be the largest state-funded road project in Victoria’s history, it is set to topple the budget at a staggering $1.39 billion. Increased costs in labour, materials, after hours work, drainage, gas and electricity infrastructure relocations being blamed for the spiraling costs.

Police agree speed cameras are for revenue raising

Police agree speed cameras are for revenue raisingPerhaps the most important victory for all car enthusiasts and anyone that has had to suffer from fixed or mobile speed cameras has come today, from no other than Victoria Police.

A recent survey by the Herald Sun has found that more than 70 per cent of Victorian police believe speed and red light cameras are more about revenue-raising than preserving road safety. A point we have tried so very hard to get across.

Out of the 3459 police officers questioned, only 6 per cent (207) strongly agreed speed cameras really do help save lives. Most interestingly though, the main duty of police officers - to serve and protect - is not shared by 42 per cent of the force, who strongly believe making money for the Government is their main role!

The fate of the Melbourne Grand Prix may be sealed after the Victorian government announced Australians would not be footing the bill for a night race.

Melbourne Motor Show: FIAT stand

FIAT’s baby 500 (Cinquecento) and Corolla-sized Ritmo have made their stunning entrance in to the hearts and minds of the Australian motoring public with a typically classy and clean cut Italian display at this year’s Melbourne International Motor Show.

Show casing one of each 500 model, several Puntos and the two of the all-new Ritmos, the FIAT stand is worth a visit… especially for red blooded males (hint hint).

Melbourne Motor Show: FPV stand

Ford’s new FG series has not gone unrewarded by the FPV treatment with GT and F6 models among the highlights on display at the FPV stand.

Although the bonnet release mechanisms have been removed from the vehicles (possibly to protect the still unreleased kilowatt ratings), the FPV range certainly looks the goods both inside and out. The crew at CarAdvice are gagging to get behind the wheel for a road test, hopefully very soon.

Melbourne Motor Show: BMW X6

Based on the X5’s 4WD underpinnings, the X6 aims to combine a sporty drive with SUV practicality and boasts a muscular stance and high rear-end, more reminiscent of cars from the Dakar Rally.
