Mitsuoka Orochi Supercar

October 4, 2006 by Alborz Fallah

What the? Yep thats what I thought too, Mitsuoka of Japan has come up with this ugly, ugly supercar:

Mitsuoka Orochi

The mid-engined Orochi sports car, along with the car’s production plans, pricing, and specifications were released today by Mitsuoka. To begin with, its good to know what Orochi means, well, apparently its the name of an eight-headed serpent out of Japanese folklore. The car initially appeared in 2001 in concept form and hasn’t really changed much in the last 5 years.

So it looks like a supercar, but is it a super car? Hell no! The Orochi is powered by Toyotas 3MZ-FE 3.3L V6 engine which is found in the more common Lexus RX vehicles. The tuned engine makes a small 230 horsepower and is connected to a Toyota 5-speed automatic. Mitsuoka says that it picked efficiency and ease of use ahead of high performance.

Mitsuoka Orochi

The big Japanese monster weighs an enormous 1.5 tons and costs around $89,000 USD or at current exchange rates, roughly $116,000 AUD. Who would want one? Not me!

Don’t go into the specifications such as engine power etc. and you must not compare each one with the other every vehicle hold It’s own position and performance. If you don’t like it, It doesn’t mean it’s not good.

You said “The car initially appeared in 2001 in concept form and hasn’t really changed much in the last 5 years.”
which is the prove that peoples love it. that’s why it is running same since last 5 years.

i know this “review” (if you can call it that) is getting old, but if you read this, i want you to know that anyone with a bit of straw in their head would pick a car with a reliable japanese engine that wouldnt cost you thousands of dollars everytime you broke a belt. sure it doesnt have lambo styling, but for $110k you get a handbuilt car with a decent engine. also, before you bag the automatic, remember what 99% of ferraris, lambos, maseratis, etc are. tiptronic AUTOS.

  3. roma says:

these car is nice looking good but its to big if i would have mony i would buy and maket light and i will have good times and throw a twen turbo on it they will give about 500 hp

  4. roma says:

you wount get a car with 110K hand built car probably from 1890′S u will.

  5. roma says:

you dude americans cars are the fuckest gey ass cars on the hole planet in russia were i live they dont buy americans cars and in europe to they buy only japen cars and germany thets the killer americans are fucken gay cars you should know

  6. borea says:

yea i agree i know in america they make the fukest cars ever u drive and they brake on the stree’s i would never change a japan or germany car for any american car take a corvette its so ugly or viper the uglyes cars ever a civic beats a viper so then a viper is a car like americans call it super car ist the geyest car i will pee on it with my supra 1998

  7. Paul says:

This is a fugly car… and it has the same engine as a Toyota Kluger. By no means a bad engine… but not designed for performance.

  8. roma says:

paul these is a nice car but its to havy its relly nice design and toyotas are one of the vest cars ever like lexus lf-a ooo yeaaaa i swa one in the show these year its relly nice

  9. Tim says:

for starters… it seems that those commenting arent actually very literate or are plagued with typos.. however… I have never seen one of these cars here in New Zealand so dont know if a Mitsuoka is good or not. I agree that Toyota make great reliable engines but have to disagree with one of the correspondents above about the Dodge Viper comment he made. The Viper is truly one torquey muscular sports car with ‘big balls’. Is in the great tradition of cars like the Cobra and Cobra Daytona. Americans may indeed go around acting like the world police at times, but they have produced some truly awesome motor cars during the age of fossil fuels.

  10. Alaa says:

i saw it in the flesh in convertible form and it looks good, out of the ordinary, a fresh design whish is what a supercar should be.

  11. jerrel says:

Oh wow the review is not biased at all, just like my comment is not sarcastic AT ALL.

  12. Macca says:

I dunno, looks like a mix-up of many different supercars, a little Jag XJ220 here, a little McLaren F1 there, doesn’t look that hideous to me. And I love the quote “enormous 1.5 tons”! Wow, you mean it weighs 3,000 lbs? That’s gargantuan! All sarcasm aside, you know that isn’t so heavy, right? I mean, the new Infiniti G37 coupe weighs in at 3600 lbs (1.8 tons!!!) and is propelled by a 330hp V6. What did you expect, for it to be as light as a Lotus Elise? And just a word to the wise…not all Americans like American cars – take it from this American, all I’ve ever owned are Japanese cars, and I intend on keeping it that way. We’re not all so blind as to think Chevy and Ford are making “good” cars…why do you think that the Toyota Camry and Corolla and Honda Accord are some of the best selling cars in the US? That should tell you something right there.

  13. Max says:

This is one of the most beautiful cars I ever seen. And i mean it. Ppl bag cars like this cos they look sporty but aren’t fast to back its looks. Neither is Celica or Prelude. They are made to LOOK fast. So is this. Its a sporty-LOOKING coupe. Made to cruise in style. If i had 160 thousand aussie dollars, and that what this would cost after all taxes and other added costs, I’d buy it right away. Even if for its style. Would I modify it? Bloody Oath Mate!

  14. Duck says:

This car is crap for the price and how it looks!

It runs on a 3287cc V6, dohc, 24v engine. It produces 169kw and 325Nm. A five speed Auto. Does 0-100km/h in 9 secs!!!! To slow!

  15. cobra says:

Looks like nothing else! I wish they sold Mitsuoka’s here, we need more out of the ordinary shit in Oz. Maybe the Aussie car industry wouldnt fade into obscurity if creative ideas such as this and a bit of aussie know-how were put into practice.

  16. karim says:

    so amazing

  17. Neal says:

chris? They’re clutchless manuals, not automatics.

They have systems that shift gears faster than you can blink but they’re automatics, not slushboxes.

    Jeez, man.

  18. jack says:

i till say it uneekly design.and for 110K i wiuld till wna go for it.even if it has a 3.3L toyota engine n do 0-100km/h in 9 sec.this is the car i would drive since its less fuel concuption, maintainance is much cheaper n engine parts are affortable.compare to those of u who really archieve their dream to get a contenintal exotic super car but barely took out a cent on repairing o even spend it on fuel

  19. Martis says:

I think it is amazing car. She looks great. A little bit disappoints that it isn’t very powerful and weights quite enough ( but looks much faster and lighter ).
