Video: Tony Hawk to ride V8-powered skateboard in Sydney

By Tim Beissmann |

This weekend’s final round of the 2010 V8 Supercar season will feature a guest appearance from Tony Hawk on a skateboard. Pretty standard, right? Not quite.

The world’s greatest boarder will jump on the only V8-powered skateboard – a V8 Superboard – which has been designed especially for the event.

Powered by a 470kW V8 Supercar engine, the Superboard’s engineers have not revealed what speed it may be capable of, but with Hawk on board it is likely to be slightly faster than the tester featured in the video.

The skateboard has only two safety features according to its designers: a big red engine kill button, and the ability to walk off it.

Supercar and skateboarding fans will get the chance to see Hawk on the V8 Superboard this Saturday and Sunday at the skate complex at Sydney Olympic Park at 12pm and 3pm.

I love stupid ideas, but 470kws + skateboard sounds like certain death.

I think he hasnt had much publicity lately and thought certain death by ICE would be a nice stunt.

How does it turn? And stupid question alert, why a skateboard if you can’t jump it?

So how many of you knew that Tony Hawk was going to be at the Sydney V8 Supercar event? None of you right? But you know now don’t you… you may have even forgotten or not known the event was on this weekend as well, but now you know.

So still a stupid idea by V8 Supercar? Don’t think so…
