In search of a new name (and more importantly, fresh publicity) for its 2012 Mustang, Ford is reaching out to the masses with a competition on the vehicle’s Facebook fan page.

Ford is giving fans the chance to name the upcoming 2012 Ford Mustang V6 Performance Package, with the winner to walk away with a two-year lease on one of the new vehicles.

To help get the creative juices flowing, the Mustang V6 Performance Package combines a lightweight 227kW all-aluminium Ti-VCT V6 with a 3.31 rear axle ratio for quicker off-the-line acceleration.

The front and rear stabiliser bars, front struts, rear springs, and front and rear brake calipers are all shared with the Mustang GT, while the V6 Performance Package also features 19in alloys, Pirelli performance tyres, a unique stability control calibration with sport mode, and unique badging.

The Mustang has just shy of one million fans on Facebook, and so far around 150 entries have been submitted for the competition.

All entries are published on a list for other Facebook users to “like”, and the five most popular names at the end of the competition will form a shortlist for Ford to select a winner from.

Unfortunately for Australian fans of the Mustang, only residents of the US are eligible for the major prize, but feel free to send in your suggestions in the comments section below…
