CarAdvice has just launched its first Premium Video Review – the first of many to come. The new FPV GT-P review, presented by editor John Cadogan, is designed to give you a good, detailed look at a sensationally significant new Australian muscle car and the heroic supercharged Coyote V8 that powers it.

Shot on location around Sydney, the new video presentation will also give you the audio highlights many of you requested immediately after our online print review of the new supercharged Coyote V8 cars hit the web – including the magnificent crackle on overrun, the menacing exhaust bellow and the outstanding supercharger whine. If this isn’t one of the best sounding Aussie V8s ever, we don’t know what is.

It’s worth remembering that the FPV GT, GT-P and GT-E are now officially powered by the most powerful Coyote V8 in the entire Ford empire – producing a peak of 335kW and a tsunami of torque (570Nm) across a staggering rev band almost 4000rpm wide, thanks to a four-way alliance between Ford and performance legends Prodrive, Eaton and Harrop Engineering. CarAdvice Premium Video Reviews are available from video.caradvice.com.au and can be streamed in a variety of convenient formats including HD. The format adapts seamlessly to your connection speed. More CarAdvice Premium Video Reviews are in the pipeline now. Stay tuned.

I watched this the other night when it got added… WOW that GT sounds mean, My Partner thought that it would have to have an aftermarket exhaust on it.

That exhaust noise and whine of the Supercharger.. WOW.

    looks fast too!

    • gtp_owner

People people this is an awsome car….!!

I own a BF GTP and I had the BA GT before it. Loved them both but as soon as this was released I made sure to tee up a test drive with my mates at Courtney ‘n’ Patterson (thanks Neil) and that thing is worth every penny!

So my first test drive was done in the rain but still worth it (scary!) so immediately teed up another one and this one was in the dry. I didn’t drive it as hard as the dude in the video but i got enough of a hint of what that car is capable of and the it’s unbelievable!!

      What a note!!!

I’m puting in my order next year…can’t wait to get it..

Any one wanna buy a BF GTP??? I’m asking 30 large…

  • Rob B

Best sounding Aussie V8? This is an American engine, just like the last one. In fact, can’t recall an Australian Ford V8 at all, more’s the pity. About the only engine that Ford can claim as Australian is that sweet inline 6.

    • reversegear

Ford is the only one to have a v8 engine production line in australia, yes the block and cylinder head are american, but thats were the similarities end, 40% of the engine is unquie to australia.

unlike holden, who haven’t developed their own V8 since the series 1 VT.

      • Tomas79

Actually the block is manufactured in India, for an american company, ford!

        • Andrew M

Who cares about the history of the Block, all the WOW bits are Australian designed and put together. Its the Aussie engineering that makes it

          • Tomas79

            Truth Cares!!

          • Andrew M

The truth is the block is the insignificant part of this motor and its performance

Just keep trying to rain on parades Tomas, Steppin on toes is your Forte, so keep doin what you know best,
            Cheers

          • Dave S

Agree Andrew. This car is only available in Australia, using Australia experience and engineering. In so many ways still the Lucky country.

          • Tomas79

Andrew M, spare me your ford fairy fanatism, pull out the block, and lets see how well the engine runs!!!
            !!

        • Smithy

          Still TROLLING Tommas?

How can you seriously claim not to be the biggest troll?

      • http://www.caradvice.com.au Jim Goose senior

Actually, the VS111 ute was the last to use this engine-it was in production until the end of 2000,it sold alongside the VT11 for about a year, but never used its new Chevy engine.

    • Azza

Possibly because the only Australian built engine is the 4.0 Ltr Inline 6 engine; it is designed, produced and assembled in Australia… As opposed to any other engine that is claimed to be built in Australia… Not pointing fingers at any company in particular… Holden…

  • ahhhhh

    OMG THAT EXHAUST NOTE!!!!!!

    • Moe

      MADE ME BLOW!!!!!!!!!!

      • Robin Graves

        “I Jizzed in my pants”

  • clinton

Ford Cleveland V8 was made right here, ok was originally designed in the US where it was only used for about 3 years but after that it was completely engineered right here in Australia and was around for over 10 years!

  • laurie

Ok I bite all I get is the black window with the play > 00:00 saw my Ethernet Hub with the busy led’s downloading the video!

    • brent

I got nothing but a black screen too and when I tried to locate videos.caradvice.com.au my browser couldn’t find that either.

      • brent

Hang on – just worked 3 rd time lucky.

the bit about the website address hasn’t changed though.

        Cheers,

        • http://www.caradvice.com.au/ Alborz Fallah

Sorry folks, we had the wrong link in there.
          All fixed now.

  • Save it for the track

Might be an american block, but the supercharger and tune are done here in Aus. The Boss 5.4L was an Aussie cobbling together as well, and not a straight out drop-in from the US.

  • nickdl

Great review John, you must’ve had an absolute ball. I saw one on the road the other day and the sound is fantastic.

    • Baddass

I envy you John, what a car! That sound itself is worth the price of admission!

    • MJ

+1. And thankyou for not having those awkward and annoying hand movements that seem to plauge the other CA videos

  • Qikturbo

I really enjoyed watching the video. The sound is great!
I wonder if the GS version sounds similiar?

    • Daniel

      Hi Qikturbo.
I drove a GS the other day and yes it sounds the same. Engine, exhaust etc are all identical to the GT. The only difference is the engine has been detuned in software.

It was a bloody brilliant car to drive, although the standard equipment list in the GS is not up to spec for a 60K car.

      Dan

  • Stavro

    Bloody orsome!!

  • Hector

    what more can i say

    this car is friggin awesome

great review as well (sound equally as good). should do a LOT more of these on caradvice (caradvice management take note).

  • Wayne Kerr

Hope you guys didn’t get bothered by police during filming.

This is a wonderful beast, high revving rice mobiles just can’t compare to brute muscle.

  • Hung Low

That short review was better than any Aus top gear episode!
    Well done C/A
    Well done Ford
The V8 sounds awesome and going through the gears you can tell this mutha has a seriously flat torque curve!
Who cares about soft touch plastic interiors when you have a driveline like that! The stripes would not be missed though!

    • Andrew

So let me get this straight: you don’t care about plastic interior that is in your face the whole time you’re in the car, but you do care about the stripes you only ever see from the outside?
Fair enough, but your logic is not like my logic :)

      • Hung Low

Name one interior that is not plastic? I said I do not care about the new soft touch plastic trend and would prioritise with the driveline on offer instead with this car.
The stripes does make the exterior look any better either imo, do not think it out too much champ:).

        • Andrew M

I dont mind the idea of a stripe package, but I do prefer the BF stripes.

The 40th GT was black with gold, and it made it look tougher

  • My password

Firstly..I would like to know where can I buy the boots that John Cadogan wore in the video..they are really good and I mean it.

As far as the car goes..For any real muscle car enthusiast this car is the real deal. It cannot get any better than this and it really is true value for money. I watched the video by connecting my laptop to the home theater and I felt like a new owner..hahaha sounds amazing!!!

  • Andrew M

Great review, and dead right about the manual gearbox, perhaps they figure not many people buy a manual anymore.

Would be good if it was a bit smoother, it does take a bit to get used to

  • Ben XR6T

FPV has a real winner here!It sounds awesome and goes like stink! The decals are not to my taste and i dont mind the interior. For the price its awesome!

  • Rick

Firstly, how fantastic to finally HEAR this thing rather than just reading about the sound. Awesome doesn’t even begin to cover it. and how is it legal? Who cares?! Nice to see some obviously professional shooting, scripting and editing, keep up the quality. Two questions – why refer to this engine as ‘Coyote’ when FPV have named it ‘Miami’ given all the development they’ve done. and second, why do we have the previous model GT-P pic as the thumbnail on the story?? Didn’t we take any pics while busy shooting vid??

    • shane

Coyote is the NA version, Miami is the US supercharged version.

      • Smithy

        Shane that’s incorrect.
The Coyote is a Ford US developed engine.

The “Miami” is an AUSTRALIAN developed and built engine that’s built off the basic achitechture from the Coyote.
There was NO US input into the supercharging development, it is an AUSTRALIAN project.

  • Peter

Car Advice I like the new video concept, well done bring us lots more!!! This GT-P is awesome, FPV is heading in the right direction it’s not quite there as a whole package but the new Coyote engine is fantastic and for the $$$ great value! That exhaust note…simply awesome!

  • HSV fan

I hate to admit it but I want one of these new FPV GTs.

  • http://www.fordnewsblog.worpress.com BenH

First off, that video was fan-bloody-tastic! Kudos to the team behind it – it was well pass TGA quality! Some of the sweeping with the camera and some other shots was well into TGUK teritory! My only quibble would be a successive acceleration recording – the dodging in and out of the car was a tad misleading with supercharger whine, then no whine etc., but that seriously is the ONLY thing I didn’t like – and all in all that’s nothing on the scale of things.

Secondly, that engine alone is EPIC!!!! Personally, I’m not 100% yet on the hockey stripes, but at least they’re optional. Really, REALLY want a new GT now!!!! *sigh… Damn P-Plate restrictions! :P

Again, great work guys, keep it up and can’t wait for the next installment! :)

    Cheers, Ben

WOW! Great car and video! WELL DONE FPV AND CA!!!

  • Shak

John, could i ask which roads you were driving on as i have been searching for just such a stretch of road to try potential vehicles out on.

    • Max Power

The road looked a lot like the Putty Road just west of Richmond/Windsor, which goes through to Singleton in NSW.

    • Save It for the track

the part where he went by the ‘Mangrove Creek’ sign gives some clues. I also recognise many of the roads around the Central Coast in NSW.
      .

  • Holden man

What a great car! I am sure it will sway some of us from the red team to the blue side. Can’t wait to drive one.

  • Jazrod

My Dad’s boss gets his GT-P demonstrator soon, he drove it on release and said it was unbelievable.

I Don’t like the wheel design, and I would LOVE to see fatter tyres on this car. My only other gripe is Ford Australia’s lack of investment in Bi-Xenon front lighting (In Falcon and Territory [even though the next Terri will have them) and LED rear lighting (even if it was just the centre break light).

Other than that a pleasing review and an amazing vehicle! Looking forward to Dad taking it home for one night ;-) hehe.

    • Clueless

Now little boy, go back to reading your Golden books… The Falcon already has the best high beam lights on a production car in the world. It does not need Bi-Xenon which are actually inferior. As for the next Territory, it does NOT have Bi-Xenon. It has projector beam headlights. In side by side comparison there is little difference betwen the projector and halogen headlamps. For high beam the results are similar.
Next you will say we need heated seats for Australia…

      • Jazrod

Now old man, I never said there was a problem with the halogen beams the current Falcon has – I just think Ford should step-up there game and keep up with it’s competitors. I don’t care about side-by-side comparisons, it’s 2010 and xenon is ‘in’, looks better and lasts longer (not to mention it uses less power with greater lighting).

My Dad works for Ford, and his DealerPrinciple has been informed that Ghia Territory’s will most likely have Xenon lights.

No, we do not NEED heated seats for Australia – but you know what, ‘Clueless’ (which is clearly what you indeed are), they are a fantastic feature on some winter nights, especially when residing on the south coast.

Your arrogance to my age is pretty amusing, also. Your assumption is that I’m young purely because I’ve spoken about my Dad. I’m 22.

      • The Realist

So the Ford has the “best high beam lights on a production car in the world” eh? Please let me know when Mercedes Benz decides to feature the Ford Falcon’s technology in their S-Class.

Perhaps Mercedes should also adopt the Ford’s cheap and nasty sat nav connected by cable with low res display…

        • skodaman

Right on! Maybe Ford should also get some lessons from BMW on how to design fuel pumps as so successfully done in their N54!!!

          • FulFord

Well BMW owes Ford one after Ford showed BMW how to do virtual pivot point monotube suspension.

  • Ben xr6

Its annoying, i thought i would be happy with the BF XR6T for another few years but there might be another costly car purchase in a years time lol.

  • Jacked

    Outstanding!!

Any plans of doing a HSV video review would love to hear a comparison.

  • Charles

I know he said that you could buy 2 of these instead of an AMG C63, but doesn’t AMG out sell HSV/FPV about 3-1 in Australia.

    • birdie

Not for much longer ,i dont think

    • Charles

Maybe Car Advice should do a comparison between the two. Because going of the sales of both cars people who have the money to buy an FPV or HSV have enough money to buy the AMG.

  • Dan

    Well done CA!
Must say the video quality, editing and most of all the sound was excellent!
I’m, in awe of this new Miami motor!!!
    Bring on FG II!

  • mick

this is a true GRAND TOURER, i want one, nice job FPV.

  • Daniel

Fantastic review John. Closest I have seen to the old Torque format, that is sorely missed on Australian television. Congratulations to you and everyone involved in putting it together. Very much looking forward to seeing more in the video series.

As for the GT. I had the opportunity to test drive a GS and was completely taken with it. Not just the sensational engine, but how the whole car was retuned. Exhaust, driveline, suspension, everything was just spot on. I will defintely being picking one of these up in a couple of years, if they prove reliable.

As a former FPV customer I thought I would never consider the brand again after a very bad experience with the BA series, but this car was good enough to stop and make me reconsider.

    Dan

  • JEKYL & HYDE

love the seats, great review.still think the old 308 holden had the best note but(remember the old days of solid lifters and straight cut timing gears).and no,i don’t think the chev is any better either.go on then,-ve me…

  • gary vann

love the deep exhaust note but does any one else hate the crackle on overun ore is it just me ??

    • Trouble

I LOVE the crackle on overrun!

    • Bomber

Hmmm… What is it that they say – “if it’s to loud, your to old”…. lol

  • BK

Mad Max cant wait in a couple years for the supercharged 351 falcon. He needs a new falcon after that last crash he had.

  • Alex

    THE SOUND!!!

I could *almost* find a valid reason to buy another Ford. That V8 will keep a lot of people (me mainly) smiling, and the neighbors jealous.

But I fear the same familiar quality issues will annoy me. Nothing serious, but I have been spoil by the Japanese makes of recent years. It is possible to make a car, Ford, that does not need to go back for repairs for over 100,000km you know.

Anyway, THE SOUND – I still want one for some reason…

  • Shinjuku Power

Glad I waited & didn’t give in to the turbo six, this car sounds awesome. Finally a v8 that doesn’t need an after market exhaust to sound right, GREAT VIDEO BTW!

    • Balls

Have you seen what the dealers are trying to flog the new fpv’s for… might have to wait for the hype to die down before considering one of these.

      • Kaiju Fan

Took a GS for a test drive… great engine & gear box (auto). But the base model is spartan on the inside (really terrible actually) & the rear tyres are far to narrow to cope with the power. And yet they wanted 60k for it, just because Ford finally has a proper V8 set-up doesn’t mean your getting more car for the money. I’ll take the G6E Turbo any day, especially since 50k or less is the going rate.

  • LukasUtopia

I like the crackle on the over run.

  • Gregm

meh, ffs, it’s just a car….who really cares ? its just “another Ford”, and if it wasn’t that, then it’d surely be “another Holden” variant.
Sick of people who think Commodores and Falcons are the only car in the world ! (that goes for you too Wheels magazine).

    • jj

what else is there that we can afford?????

cmon richman? got a bimmer? a benz?

if its JUST A CAR, stop loitering around car websites, and go find what you are really into, and loiter there. i dont visit ur macrame forums and diss what you like.

    • Bomber

      Hey Gregm…
Isn’t there a lawn bowls comp on somewhere in Australia you should be attending. Maybe go shopping for some new balls while your out…

      Well said JJ

  • Blitzkrieg

Sounds like the beefy v8s of yesteryear (1970s),phenominal.

  • jj

please post the video on youtube or some place that actually supports buffering, for those of us on slower connections!

  • jj

** found the vid on youtube…. much better! :)

  • John P.

That sound is to die for! Wonderful!

I love how you Aussies have packaged that wonderful American Motor and American Supercharger and made it work beautifully in a 4dr sedan.

Family guys here in the States wish for a Ford like that. The Mustang is a harder sell with the wife. OK call me a wuss!

    That’s a great car!

    • getitright

the supercharger is designed cast and assembled right here in Aus by Harrop, It is based of an Eaton

the engine is mostly what you’ll find in the US except for the conrods pistons and intake the heads have been revised to flow better than the US heads

  • gtp_owner

I’m curious as to why anyone would actually care about where the engine is made. Holden’s Chevy engine is actually a big part of the reason the car is so popular.

    • Jack

Pride that the engineering skill can be found in this country to make an engine like this. Pride in the resourcefulness of Australians to take designs and improve on them or alter them to better suit local conditions. Pride that what we produce is world class.

      What a note!

How long can HSV keep adding cubes ?

  • wayne

they’re definately going to be a ‘naughty’ machine to drive and own.Don’t stop there ford keep up the good work.

  • F^TYPHOON

Um Great video clip but who’s driving the car at 2min30sec ?

This guy has sun glasses on lol

    • Datsun P510

I can tell you that John is the only person driving that car in the video

  • Bomber

Hey John… Please tell me that the camera man wanted you to sit in that position for purely angle, cause man if that is how you drive on a normal day sitting that close, heven forbid you ever turn off the traction control in that beast, then stand on it like you did after coming off the bridge in the video, cause mate – you’d never catch it…
You even look uncomfortable, take a good look at how your sitting.. Man, don’t be scared.!!

  • Natalie Baker

    What a horny looking car…. :)
