2012 Nissan Micra Sedan

By Brett Davis |

Update: Nissan confirms the sketches are of a Micra Sedan variant.

Nissan has just released a sketch of what is likely to be the next generation Nissan Tiida, although a recent report from Nissan Co. says it is its new ‘global sedan’. We suspect Nissan may bring back the Pulsar nameplate.

The model will also be released in the US and badged as the Nissan Versa, which basically shares the same Pulsar platform.

It looks quite upper-class and much more modern compared to the current Nissan Tiida. The current model isn’t exactly praised for its strange, squashed design.

Engine specifications and interior features are yet to be finalised. Nissan has said the model will be unveiled at the 8th China International Automobile Exhibition, Guangzhou, in December this year, though. Look out for our updates leading up to the show.

Even a quick sketch looks better than the current car.

    • Frenchie

The quick sketch always looks better than the finished product too!

  • K20A

    Looks better than Kim Cattrall

    • fred flinstone

i reackon kim cattrall is a couger i would gladly jump in the sack with her she would do some dirty things that everyone wishes their missus would do….. ive gotta go to the toilet now

  • TomJ

    Looks much improved.

Having said that ive seen preschoolers crayon drawings of cars that look better than the current one so thats not saying alot.

  • Hung Low

Please change the name Nissan, Tiida obviously did not work and will only provoke much unwanted memories of the current model!

  • LN

I have read somewhere that this only would be released in North America and worldwide release may be ruled out.

  • ox

Will be interesting to see how this sketch translates to real life, dosnt look promising…and yeah ditch Tida and bring back the Pulsar name… with 3 S’s

  • JEKYL & HYDE

a quality small-medium car is so important to all car makers that nissan cannot possibly afford to get this wrong(again!!).mazda(3)toyota(corolla)holden(cruze)have shown that a quality car will sell in droves, not just here but all over the world.the single, most important start is for nissan to change the name, preferably back to the “big p”…

  • PROJET – L

Tiida – a name like a womens sanitary napkin.
And looks and performance to match.

Won’t be hard to make a better car, if they apply themselves.

  • Lars

Is anyone in a right mind to name a car TIIIDAAA? How stupid can you be…

  • Nick K

I know let’s build an old school tinny and plasticky hatch and awkardly proportioned sedan … While VW does cars like the Golf… What a winning strategy! Just copy the Golf and be done with it Nissan and drop the Tiida name.

    • Hung Low

The same could have been said about the Golf when the N14 SSS Pulsar was around!

  • j

What about the Versa name used for the Turda in America?

    • Blitzkrieg

Why would you use the versa name in Aust over Pulsar???

  • Anthony

The current Tiida has got to be the most hideous new car on the marlet worldwide, what were Nissan thinking ???
    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • toxic_horse

The Tiida is quite clearly the worst idea in recent motoring history. No heritage, no sport model or even loose association with any sporty Nissan ever made. Zero street cred or desirability. Not targeted to any market.
The stupid thing is. the Tiida actually drives ok and has decent interior. From the inside you almost forget that everyone is laughing at you.

    • Yonny

      Yeah, almost……

  • http://BMW Nelson

When I was looking for a car I saw this thing called TIDA.

Of all the Hatchbacks I saw, Fiesta, Focus, Megane, C4, Corolla, Mazda 3, Swift, Clio, Impreza etc…

I saw them all the Tida was and is a disgraceful car, the interior is crap, the seats are form the 80′s, engine was boring i just hated the thing so much and actually despise the car completely when I see it in the road.

It is the worst modern Hatchback and probably the worst ever. If it was developed in the 80′s would be the best for it’s time but now nooooooooooooooooooooooo

Will they get it right now?

  • Godzilla

All this prejudice against it is getting annoying. Yes a Mazda 3/Golf is better, but they’re also a fair bit more expensive. And the Tiida is damn well on par with the Corolla (which is still more expensive).

Tiida is good value and has a decent engine, and a lot more kit than most other hatches are offering.

  • Golfschwein

The name makes no difference. Cortina becomes Sierra. Sierra becomes Mondeo. No problem. 323 becomes 3. No problem. Echo becomes Yaris. No problem. Excel sort of becomes i30. No problem. Escort becomes Focus. No problem. Every Peugeot lives once and some become classics, such as 504s and 205s. No problem.

Pulsar becomes Tiida. Problem. Why? Because it’s under specified, ghastly and gawky. If Nissan fixes the style and the spec and prices it right, it will perform in the market as they hope, whatever it’s called.

    • Shak

No the problem is the Pulsar name was so well known throughout our market, by not only the doof doof brigade, but also parents looking for the first car for their L-Platers, and also grannies who justed wanted an A-B appliance. And the older Pulsars were all pretty good cars. I had one as my first car on my P’s. When Nissan shifted from the Pulsar they went from a purpose built hatch to a stretched Clio with an outdated drivetrain. All the marques you mention moved on the much better cars in some way, Nissan did not.

      • Golfschwein

I agree it was a well known name, Shak. Nobody got bewildered when another well known name, the Kingswood, was ousted by a new rakish looking thing from Europe called the Commodore.

Every single car on the road was a new name at some point in its life, just as the Pulsar was in the early eighties when it kissed the Sunny (nee 120Y) goodbye.

It comes back to the product…

        • Shak

Yes, but as i said, they were all replaced with better products, and so the new name was accepted as a building block. the TIIIDDDDAAAAA however, took a step back from the Pulsar in every way possible.

          • Golfschwein

            YUP! :)

  • Banicks

    Well, it could be worse…

  • Bimmerc

If it is big enough, (still smaller than Maxima) I wouldn’t mind to revive the name called “Blue Bird”.

  • LN

The mistake by Nissan was not bringing down the Bluebird Sylphy instead they brought in the Tiida which was meant to be aimed at women aged 30+.

Nissn Aus made the big mistakes in marketing and the car itself.

  • Will

Back in 2006, Nissan Australia were advised by the Parent company to move away from Pulsar and change to Tiida (a name which was used in other countries). Obviously this was a mistake since Pulsar had a very good name in Australia.

While people will say the Tiida is the Pulsar rebadged, it really isn’t. While it may have the same engine, the body is just ugly. The sedan is passable, but have you seen the ugly hatchback? Dreadful marketing for this car by Nissan Australia. Difficult to sell too on the second hand market.

    • Haditsday

So you are having trouble selling you Tiida Will?

Even though you loved the bright pink colour when you brought it your learning now arent you.
