2011 Volkswagen Eos gets Golf GTI 155kW engine

By Brett Davis |

Volkswagen has just announced the new Volkswagen Eos model year 2011 release which comes with an upgrade in the engine compartment. The new Eos is now available with the same 2.0-litre TSI Volkswagen Golf GTI engine.

The engine is known as a potent yet fuel efficient turbocharged four-cylinder outputting 155kW of power and 280Nm of torque. Not only does it have this much torque though it’s also very versatile; 280Nm available between 1,700 and 5,200 rpm.

In the Volkswagen Eos the engine allows the car to do the 0-100km/h sprint in just 7.8 seconds. Not bad for a small convertible. While it showcases relatively sporty figures, the engine remains quite fuel efficient too, returning 7.4L/100km in fuel consumption in manual form (7.9L/100km with the automatic DSG gearbox), and emits just 173grams of CO2 per kilometre (184g CO2/km with the DSG).

The 2011 Volkswagen Eos is still also available with the 2.0-litre TDI 103kW turbo diesel engine, but all the new models see the addition of new 17 inch alloy wheels, Vienna leather interior with heated front seats, and a range of new exterior colour options.

Pricing for the 2011 Volkswagen Eos remains unchanged from the just-superseded version; $46,990 for the Eos 103TDI and $48,990 for the Eos 155TSI, excluding on-road costs.

“The engine is known as a potent yet fuel efficient turbocharged four-cylinder outputting 155kW of power and 280Nm of torque.”

Potent?? Ha!….ha!…ha! Now that is quite humorous.

Yes potent” YET FUEL EFFICIENT “, in DINO world they dont understand fuel economy , faster to 100k than a bog standard commodore .

      • Hung Low

The ‘DINO’ world can still recognise the crucial part that size and weight can play with performance and economy, obviously a suave sophisticated VW lover like yourself does not.
Why compare this with a Commodore? Try comparing it to a bog stock Jetta or Passat first at least!

        • bangel

Talking power and economy, the DINO world only talks power , no idea about linking the two .

Interesting how the large car market has only grown by 1.2% year to date , mid size 11% , small 17% , tells you something about the dying big car market .

Check the sales figures from ten years ago they are dying and quickly .

Good for when your late for work at the hairdressers

I don’t mean any offence to hairdressers when I say this, but I simply can’t imagine the average person in that industry having the best part of $60,000 to fund a car like this. Or maybe I need to change trades.

You’re a bit late with this news Car Advice!! The 155TSI has been in the Golf since the MY10 upgrade earlier this year.

    • Save It for the track

I believe the story is about the EOS, not the Golf…. (what’s happenong with the system times on posting??)

  • Baddass

It needs the new corporate face. The old looks are the reason it’s flagging in sales.

  • Kds

I meant to say has been in the Eos since MY10.

Damn there being no edit function!

How can someone reasonably justify spending over $50,000 on a convertible that looks like an old Golf sedan?

I just returned from the UK where the stunning Scirocco is on sale – after looking for the golf variant in this technological backwater and finding it had not yet arrived, I briefly considered an Eos.

Then got better bang for my buck with a 6.0l Holden SS ute. Same money, much better value than last years chopped Jetta.

Put an Audi badge on it, then shallow Aussies might buy them.
