Do you want a forum?

By Alborz Fallah |

Some of you have been asking for it and we are now considering it, but given over 97% of our readers never leave a comment, we thought we’d ask all of you if you want a forum?

{democracy:13}

  • http://www.importjap.com/blog ImportJap

Trial it to see if people take the bickering/conversations off the posts?

  • http://www.caradvice.com.au/ alborz

Thats the aim, but we are not sure if it will cannibalize comments in posts, which are great.

  • Me.

The main thing that brought me posting here was the 2008 Falcon spy shots.

…But i’ve been attacked by “internet villins” (e.g…Tornmotor Paul) But those idiots make me want to stay all the more.

  • arsenalroc

    you know my answer!:P
it would a good idea to trial the idea
especially when looking at certain comment collums have reached into the 100.

  • arsenalroc

PS. it is important to note that somebody like me checks the a fair few times during the day just to see if there any development!!!

  • Me.

The same goes with me arse nalroc! I check posts to make sure nobody has launched an attack on me….And it happens!

  • http://www.importjap.com/blog ImportJap

Just be careful with morons that sign up to post spam/porn links (use captcha’s etc). Absolutely destroyed my forum, especially when Google visits your site and finds spammy/off-topic posts and penalizes your site rankings!

  • Bavarian Missile

    97%………wow! Yes please !!!

  • Me.

I remember seeing someone using porno links on this site…
God BM, you must of been seeing repeats of the Chaser! HAHA
And I hope the personal targeting ends….

  • Vince

someone read my mind, go the forum!

  • http://navelcontemplation.blogspot.com/2007/03/i-don-get-fashion.html supercujo

ImportJap: There are ways to stop Google trawling through the site. Something about a robots.txt file I think.

  • Mitchell

There will surely be idiots posting on the forums, these car websites tend to send them in hordes. But a good Australian car forum on all topics?

    Sure, sounds great.

  • The Axe

    Trial it as already mentioned.

Moderate it with a fair bit of force and that should weed out the garbage.

  • http://ozmazdaclub.com David (ZBravo)

A forum on new cars would be a great idea as there is many other car sites out there as I have been a member on ozmazdaclub.com We can chat about all models give it a go…

  • http://www.importjap.com/blog ImportJap

True Supercujo, but an on-topic forum is a gold mine for information seekers and robots.txt tends to be too broad.

  • Jane Lech

There are enough quite car forums out there already without have a new one. A waste of time.

  • Bavarian Missile

How often do you post on this site though Jane!!!!!For those that are regulars we enjoy the socialising side as well as discussing makes and models! Go the Forum I say!

  • Eddy The Expert

I think it could be a good thing so long as it doesn’t end up full of wankers like the blogs over at drivel.com.au (drive.com.au)

  • Tom

    Who are we kidding.

I think that a forum, like any other one that services people of differing opinions (and quite like the comments sections here often is) will simply be filled with stupid people arguing points that weren’t made by other people and certainly aren’t relevant to the article.

Call me a pessimist, but it will quickly fill up with useless advice and news from know-it-alls that know nothing.

  • http://www.fordbook.com Henry Carman

Being able to share is an important draw to any website! Even those who do not post enjoy reading the posts!

  • Grumps

    Give it a trial.

However I fear it will end up with too many pointless arguments and get hijacked by a few who can’t help but post drivel.

You will need some really good mods to look after it properly.

  • AndrewC

Sounds like a good idea to me, and maybe along the way we might lose the absolute attention seeking armchair experts that really haven’t got a clue about motoring history beyond the year 2000.

  • FordFinaticallyFantastic

ME you f*cking idiot the only person attacking others in the past is yourself buddy… you give the impression from your lack of literacy of a 5 year old child. As for forum, no.

  • Andrew M

nah this set up is unique and easy.
i also reckon the forums will fill up with crap. maybe just moderate the posts a little more closely to get rid of the personal chit chat that is a country mile off the topic.
i dont have a problem with the biased comments that frequent the site (they are fun to read and respond to) but once they become abusive they should be cut

  • Me.

Hey Andrew M!!! I agree, a perfect example is “FordFinaticallyFantastic” because he really is some class clown!! :)

  • Me.

HAHA!! FordFinaticallyFantastic I get it, you’re joking about attcking others…. LOL!

  • Bavarian Missile

Why wouldn’t you want a real Forum??????? Have you seen how many people go on to Ford Forums????? Its moderated really well……..thats all you need, some of those blogs get thousands of posts………thats good for your ratings as a site and that makes money!!! Nothing wrong with chitt chatt Andrew! At the moment we cant go off topic ! We need to be able to start new blogs on subjects….. if you cant then the Chitt Chatt arises, look at us talking about V8 Supercars……..no spot available to discuss here at the moment except for where you bring it up!Moderators will stop the abuse so I wouldn’t worry about any abuse!!This site already gets idiots coming on and mimicking others………Caradvice is ready to grow……..and a Forum will help it on its way! I agree with Grumps………….give it a trial……..Alborz isn’t an idiot if he deems it as unsuccessful then we just go back to where we were!!!!!

  • Andrew M

yes yes true but i just felt it was being used like a forum now.
whats the point of having both?

yes maybe a trial might be good like anything to see how it goes.
the V8 supercars conversation is a good eg missile. it is very relevant to what we come to read about yet no designated space.

but i cant help but feel these conversations will still grow in certain articles’s posts

  • Bavarian Missile

I guess cause 97 % of people that view the site don’t comment! I think if it was dedicated to a Forum then more would feel inclined to have a say……they clearly are watching but why not comment??

Lets just watch this site grow………after all how many other sites will allow such a diverse range of cars to discuss?? None!! Alborz is on a good thing………lets keep it growing!! Have you seen the sites results over the last 12 months on “about us’?? Growing and growing!!I dont like change but I do like opportunity when it comes a knocking!! TAP,TAP,TAP!!

  • arsenalroc

    agreeded 100% with bavarian missle!
a forum for this website will be different because it allows a such a diverse range unlike a ford or holden forum.- no harm in having a trial! if it decends into a drivel or CarAdvice finds it too hard to maintain, get rid of it- no harm no foul

  • Me.

Now I get it, people have been calling this a forum, which I knew was wrong. If a real forum does go ahead, I won’t be part of it.

  • David

If it is to work the four letter words, personal jibes.
Idiots who just do a one liner & then scamper away.
They need to be banned. No warnings.
I know it won’t work too many bad attitudes just as on the roads.
