Thai national anthem to stop traffic

November 26, 2007 by Alborz Fallah

Thai FlagHere in Australia we have a lot of law makers passing a lot of idiotic laws, but in Thailand, legislation proposed by group of retired and active generals has topped the list.

The Flag Bill was introduced last week with the aim of stopping Thailand when the national anthem plays. The Bill’s supporters think cars should stop nationwide when the anthem is played during the raising and lowering of the flag.

The old generals think this will help preserve tradition and instill patriotism in Thais!

At least the anthem only lasts for about a minute and as one Thai general said “They already spend more time in traffic jams anyway“.

I actually like the Thai anthem, I got used to hearing it at 8am and 5pm during the day. Not much is different by adding that legislation as everything stops once the music starts. Now I have the anthem going through my head.

maybe they could play our national anthem around our motorways so then the government could use it as an excuse for the bumper to bumper traffic we experience here
