Ben Collins sacked as Top Gear’s Stig and replaced already

By Brett Davis |

Ben Collins aka The Stig, Top Gear’s tame racing driver, has apparently been sacked from the show after he announced the release of his new autobiography. The book is said to be released on September 16.

A replacement then? Well, reports say BBC has already hired a replacement ‘Stig’. The new character was spotted at a recent Nurburgring car event whilst, at the same time, Ben Collins was photographed at his home in western UK. It’s unknown what the Top Gear crew was filming exactly but it certainly puts an end to the Stig’s mystery identity and to Ben Collins’ great job as the world’s most famous test driver.

Ben Collins owns his own autosport company which specialises in all things racing and driving. Collins himself has raced in Formula 3, British Touring cars, the FIA GT Championship and even in our own Bathurst V8 Supercar race teamed with Nathan Pretty in the Kelly/Jack Daniel’s Racing car. He’s also been the test driver for various NASCAR teams and has even tested Formula 1 cars.

Collins’ stint as the Stig started in 2003, giving him a good seven years of solid fun behind the wheel of almost every modern sports and exotic car you care to mention. He might have been sacked, but he’s certainly provided us with a lot of great comparisons and even showcased some funny acting skills.

what happens when you get too big for your helmet.

  • cruickster

So Hampster, May and boof head are allowed to make millions out of their books but the STIG isn’t. I guess that’s what happens when you go up against the BBC. Top Gear, used to be a cool show but now formulaic and predictible.

No, that’s what happens when you violate the terms of your contract.

  • D Is For Drive

Some say…he has two young children annnd he has recently been given the sack by the BBC, all we know is, hes not the Stig but he is Ben Collins

  • Shak

has he confirmed that he was the Stig? Im just asking.

  • Andronicus

What a chump. Wait till you retire and then put out a book. Some people don’t appreciate how good they have it, plenty of people would have killed for his job and he has thrown it away for money and a bit of fame. No one cares about Ben Collins, people care about the Stig.
Oh well, on to the next one. Hope it’s silver. Or yellow stig. Let’s hope the next one can keep it in his helmet if you know what I mean.

He owns a motor sport company lol he isnt missing out lol when you get tired of something you get tired of it.

  • toxic_horse

    Top Gear has had it

  • Anthrax

7 years? Time for a change, and why not! Can’t have fun for ever. I’d do the same thing if I was being bent over by BBC.

why do you keep posting this on EVERY article.
    noone cares.
    move along

  • Moey

Well Collins has to realize taking up the job/contract to be the stig comes with many restrictions, nothing like a new refresh of Top Gear I think clarkson will say “Ok umm recently we have broken the old stig and we got a new one” should be funny

  • FairDinkum

Nancy Cartwright lasted >20 seasons (as Bart Simpsons) hasn’t she?

    Typical closed-minded BBC mentality I’d say…

  • Gary

Some say he could not Read a Contract and others that he had a High Opinion of himself, all we know is that he WAS the Stig and who cares……

  • ExStig

    I was the Stig!

  • Millatime

The Stig is a character wholly owned by the BBC.

The BBC are right to move Collins on. He was contracted to drive – as The Stig – not as Ben Collins, and was very well paid for what really is a bit part.

Ben Collins’ big mistake was that he started to belive he really was The Stig.

  • Mad Max

Shows how stupid Ben Collins really is. The original Stig (dressed in black) was sacked by the BBC for the exact same reason. He wrote a book and revealled his identity. You would have thought Ben would have learnt from it. The real stars are the presenters, not somebody hidden behind a helmet.

    BORING!!!

  • v8 magic

There will only ever be one Stig..

  • Marcoz

Why dont they use Warren Luff, he is the Aussie Stig…

    :)

  • The Oracle

Is the top photo the ex-Stig’s new cars or is it showing him with the candidates to replace him?

  • XR8XR2

the stig in my mind shouldnt be known and should be a mystery thats the fun fact of it ahh him, plus i will be interesting to see if ben mentions anythings about duck facts in his book, because as we all know both facts will be wrong.

  • Moey

I’m never going to be The Stig

  • Michael Field

The Stig is actually the DREAD PIRATE ROBERTS!!!!

  • Al Juraj

Michael Schumacher would be a very good replacement. In fact, some others still believe the Stig’s really him. He could possibly wear an all-red suit to signify his Ferrari heyday or a silver one to represent Mercedes. It’s a better job than returning to F1 and digging a hole for himself. Rosberg, someone who’s never experienced a Grand Prix win, is all over him, and he has yet to finish on the podium this year. It goes to show that without a great car, he’s no different to Webber and company when it comes to ability.

The Stig, is still the Stig. He has NO name…….We now have to guess who the new Stig is. So, lets get on with it.
