New-school AC Cobra sketches
A Maltese design firm has released sketches of its take on the present day incarnation of the iconic AC Cobra, dubbed the KC-427 - and it looks brilliant.
Racer X Design, the company behind the rendering, has attempted to stay true to the spirit of the original whilst bringing it into the new millennium by maintaining the same lines as the original.
Its small dimensions coupled with the space frame chassis mean weight would be kept to below a tonne, while a 7.0-litre Corvette Z06 V8 under the bonnet will see a power to weight ratio around 550hp/tonne (410kW/tonne).
“We will start collecting information on who might be interested in this car. The first 20 people who show interest will be offered the opportunity to purchase the KC once the cars are ready and be updated regularly with the progress,” Racer X design chief Reuben Zammit said.
The concept model is scheduled to be completed within a year, and with only 20 KC-427s to be sold internationally, they are sure to be a future classic.

There is a concept one of these with a Ford V10.
The Shelby Cobra 427 was very fast in a straight line, but not so good when it came to corners because it had a huge Ford 427 side-oil engine at the front, with a light back end.

An aussie company called Robnell out of Melbourne WAS building the best Cobra replicas in the world complete with the 427! Does anyone know if they are still in business?

My father has an old Cobra repica. It’s unfinished, but still road worthy. It has a 351 Winsor, but it’s a very slow car, it needs a better carby and bigger pipes.

Corvette 7.0?!!! How rude! The before mentioned Ford V10 (or V12) should go under the hood! Anyways, looks mint! /licks lips

Certainly looks great but i must agree with everyone with regard to the engine.. Thats blasphemy using a GM group engine in a Ford.. Oh well its sure to be a good steer. Will run low 11s with traction..

This is cool!
Hehe I’m sure they must be expecting people to have objections to the Chev motor! They could have used something by Saleen and it would still be a little ball tearer
Looks sweet though

Fordman6……Im with you!
I thought Hod Rodders put Chevs in Rods cause they where cheaper than Windsors and Clevelands to extract Horsepower out of……but I cant see that the Vetts engine will be a cheap alternative. So why no FORD power…..?

There was Ford Shelby Cobra concept car that was real, but didn’t go to production. These guys have stolen most of the styling cues from that.

That 427 your referring to Supercujo is the engine Im hoping we get in the next HO! I think ill have to have cool flex hoses on it too!
Heres a link of what it can look like! WOW!
http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/show.php?num=577
An article I found on it for you!
The 427 is nearly the same length as the 5.4-liter V8, and 70 lb lighter.” And it produces 590 hp @ 6,500 rpm, and 509 lb-ft of torque at 5,500 rpm while meeting expected emission standards, something the 1960s-era 427 could never accomplish. It also comes in 351-[in.sup.3] and 390-[in.sup.3] displacements–numbers Familiar to Ford enthusiasts–and the Former can safely spin to a heady 7,500 rpm
So you can see why I think it would be perfect for the new HO,will fit in the new Orions engine bay and be lighter than the current 5.4…..win.win!

Too right Fordman6, that’s rude using GM engines in Fords, but also Bavarian Missile said about the hot rod people using Chev engines.
I don’t know about that same Ford 427 motor in a modern GT-HO, they were a huge pushrod engine - not to mention the side oil system and the carby.

Anyone got the May 1990 issue of Sports Car International? It’s got the Shelby Cobra 427 in it. 0-60 miles in 4.0 secconds, now that’s good for a ‘65 model car!
On an episode of Rides, they were making a retro Daytona Cobra,(If you don’t know what that is, look back to the car that Peter Brock died in) and it also had the Cobra like this they made. Same colour and everything, but a Ford V10 insted it a GM V8.

Regardless of what engine is in it all that power in a car that weighs less than a tonne is a force to be reckoned with
that said like everyone else i agree that they should of stuck with tradition and stuck with Ford.

Other half has copies of rides I cant stand the voice over…so I don’t watch it!
0-100 is good going for something as old as me..shhhh stop laughing! Most guys at that age I think are capable of those numbers in other areas if you know what I mean!heheheh.
I take it you where joking on the old 427 in the Cobra being in the new HO ?
Totally different engines!

…OOPS, so that’s the engine, a Ford 427 V10. I thought you wanted that same big old NASCAR “side-oil” 427 V8 that’s used in the old Cobra in the future HO, that can’t be right! HAHA LOL!

The Maltese-Cobra doesn’t look that bad. However; I still prefer the look of the original. The main reason being Why have they hidden the side exhaust pipes?
I mean the pipes would have to be one of the most distinguishing features of the Cobra as is the ovoid nuge bar and the roll bar [which you can hardly see on the newby]
By covering up the pipes it just looks like an other Kit Car.
No I’d go for the original or at least a Robnell Replica as Im sure they’d use a Ford engine.. [That V10 looks nice]

I agree BM they should have used a Ford engine.. as I recall JC mentioned that Koenigsegg use a Ford 5L V8
If you want to go completely OTT how about Porsche leMans V10; a Bugatti Veyron Engine or even a Keith Black Engine similar to that in Ben Brays 2500Hp Holden Ute

Closest I been to anything Keith Black is his pistons! How much for one of his engines? I cant remember?
