A Japanese newspaper reported recently that Toyota Motor Corporation has reduced its production target for 2011 from near one million down to 740,000.

According to Nikkan Kogyo, Toyota handed in its production plan to the company’s component suppliers which showed the slump in targets. The article didn’t mention the source of the information though.

Meanwhile, a Toyota spokesman has said in a recent Automotive News report, that the specific Nikkan Kogyo story failed to prove where the information came from and that Toyota is not reducing its production targets. The spokesman also said Toyota will continue to increase its marketing and hopefully, sales, of all hybrid vehicles, especially in America where the hybrid market is swelling.
