Eight Lexus LFAs heading to Australia

By Brett Davis |

Lexus Australia has announced there’s been high demand for the exotic Lexus LFA coupe, which has forced the company to increase Australian production of the vehicle from five to eight. The first example will hit our shores in April 2011.

Lexus was planning to sell just five of these crazy carbon fibre coupes down under, but with the success of the ‘F’ range, including the snarling Lexus IS F and ‘F’ variants of the IS250 and new IS350, the sporting segment of the brand has really taken off.

Tony Cramb, Lexus Australia chief executive, said in a recent report,

“Well before we confirmed five LFAs for Australia we had more than enough solid enquiries to quadruple that allocation but we were caught well short of market demand – we’ve been overwhelmed by the response to the LFA. There is no doubt that our growing portfolio of ‘F’ product is resonating with customers.”

Luring demand is the 4.8-litre V10 engine that’s built in conjunction with Yamaha. It produces the most glorious-sounding 412kW you could ever imagine. The mighty engine has a redline cut-off of 9500rpm and allows the car to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.7 seconds and go onto a top speed above 300km/h.

Production of the Australian versions is said to commence in December this year.

    9500RPM??!!

What’s the word I’m looking for…? I think it starts with F, and ends in -aarrrrkk :)

      Ferjulatiaarrrrkk?

but will they sell them outright? or only lease them to Ausssies!

    • TomJ

You can buy them outright in America now too.

  • Brad

Buffoons! You can get much better cars for much less money. If you could afford that why on earth wouldn’t you go for a Ferrari 459 or 599, a GT-R, Lamobo/Porsche/Aston/Massa…

I mean I know there’s a prestige element in there being only a handful of them, but still!

Exclusive it’s called! Anyone can own a ferrari or a porsche but only 8 very lucky rich people will own a LEXUS SUPERCAR!

People who buy the LFA probably already have all the cars you mentioned in their garage.

    • Dezza

Cmon man…. only 500 will be built and 8 are coming. i dont care about the price tag this supercar took 10years for them to make so suck it up

Astounds me that they charge such a premium for a car that offers nothing more in the performance stakes compared to its CHEAPER opposition.

    Appreciate it engineering prowess but….

Its guaranteed that the general public will dismiss it a just another boy racer car with nothing outwardly special.

Really lacks class and substance in its appearance.

This car is priced this high so that people like you who know nuts about cars won’t be able to afford one in their entire lifetime.

Cheap shot there without knowing…so best regards.

        Thanks for the intelligent response

Lets start with a Audi R8,R35GT-R along with a something else Hmmm…special.

People who have seen me regularly at Track Days know its a fact.

        No dreamer here,just a doer

What do YOU own they say???
